How to remove turn signal assembly on a 97 ford probe

Remove the connector from the assembly and probe the light green wire (with white stripe) with an ohmmeter. Hold the other meter lead to ground to see if the wire is shorted. If not, turn the signal on and change your meter to vdc to see if power is coming to the wire. If not, trace the wire back to the bcm to see if the wire is cut. If not, remove the connector from the bcm to see if the terminal is pushed back inside the connector. If not, put the connector back on. With the headlight connector still off, probe the wire terminal at the back of the bcm to see if there is power at the bcm pin with the signal on. If not, replace the bcm.

There should be a cover on the back of the assebly. a few crews and some metal clips. I dont think you have to remove the whole assembly to change it if i remember right. it should just be a protective cover.

Usually from inside the car, look for a carpet or plastic panel that can be removed to get to the bulbs.

1.Remove the front turn signal assembly mounting screws and slide the assembly forward, out of the vehicle body.
2.Twist the bulb socket a quarter turn counterclockwise, then remove the bulb assembly from the housing
3.The defective bulb can then be removed from the socket and replaced.
4. Installation of the front turn signal assembly is the reverse of removal.

1. Open the trunk and remove the taillight cover by turning the knob.
2. Determine which of the two bulbs is burned out: tail/stoplight or turn
signal.
3. Remove the socket by turning it one-quarter turn counterclockwise.
4. Remove the burned out bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out of its socket.
5. Install the new bulb in the socket.
6. Reinstall the socket into the light assembly.
7. Test the lights to make sure the new bulb is working.
8. Reinstall the taillight assembly cover.

My mother's brake lights (1996 Ford Contour) were not working and it was the combination switch. The combination switch is an assembly by the wheel, you use it to give turn signals, high beam, hazard lights and apparently the 'smart' Ford designers linked the rear brake lights to it. Could be a contact that is oxidized. I repaired mine. I may have one lying around. You can get this from a junk yard. I believe it is pretty simple to remove.
