Make sure that your axles aren't broken. If you have a broken axle the power would transfer to the wheel with the least amount of resistance (to the broken axle) therefore not propelling the vehicle. Also look at your fluid level and condition. It is possible that the transmission is slipping in which case you'd need a transmission/rebuild.

the pin in the differential inside the trans probably came out. you need a new transmission since this usually causes major case damage.

Is the check engine light on ?
You may have a problem with a solenoid or pressure problem in the transaxle.

Sorry to say but you need to rebuild the transmission.......... same thing happened to me when ine went out
UnforUnfortunately, ala Gordon Ramsey, it is how they say, "cooked."? But before you do anything ask around, or look up on line for some really good repair shops that do not do transmissions. Ask who they recommend. Ask if they know any race car mechanics. Ask them who does their transmissions. I did that and got a shop that did an outstanding job. It cost me $3000. But, if you buy a junk yard tranny, even with a guarantee, you have to pay labor to put it in, then take it out if it fails. That is a real risk. A good shop will test your engine first. If your engine is in good shape and you arre satisfied with the rest of the car, then a transmission will last you at least 100K. I had 170K on the first one, replaced it and have 85K on the new one. Some shops like mine will even come pick your car up for free or for less than you'd pay a tow truck. You are still looking at a sizeable sum so its is worth considering the cost.
