Check fusable links in your battery cable and starter wires. Do you have power at the starter where the positive cable attaches? Your battery is good? Do you have any power anywhere else?

So you are saying you don't have power at the starter? Then check the fusable links on the cables and wires to the starter. They are the fat part on the wire. You might have power on one side of the link, and not the other. The fusable link in the wire is burnt.

Are you pulling the arm all the way back up. If not, the ignition is still on and you could be draining the battery. also check the alternator, they can short out on the inside. The solenoid is on the right fender well, do you have the single wire on the correct post

Weak starting

Evan, you may have two interconnected but otherwise unrelated problems. Problem one is your starter sounds like it is wearing out due to the second problem you have. If this has been going on for a while and you have had to repeatedly crank and crank the engine the starter gets hot and wears prematurely. The "Bendix" gear on the end of the starter isn't always extending into the ring gear on the flywheel and they scrape against each other when you try to start the engine. The bump you feel may be a damaged tooth (or teeth) in either the starter or the ring gear it turns or the bolts holding the starter may be getting loose (or both). The second issue feels like a defective ignition switch in the steering column from the information you have given so far.

If the engine does not crank, and assuming the battery is charged and the security light is not on, the three most common problems are a faulty starter, neutral safety switch, or key switch.
You would need to know if the starter has battery voltage when the key is in the start position the next time it will not crank.
