They are a pain in the %#@ I would not do it if you have never done one. let a pro. put up with it... fords are known for this issue the problem is when they designed the cylenders they did not put enough threads on the plugs .the plug is to close to the cylinder there for causing to much compressision and blowing out the plugs...

Have a spark plug that blew out on a honda jazz

If you are lucky, the spark plug was not tightened correctly and worked loose. In this case, you may be able to chase the threads and it will go back in and stay. Make sure the plug is installed correctly this time.

If you are unlucky, the threads will be stripped. In this case, you have 2 choices: thread repair or larger spark plug. Either way, you have to drill and tap the spark plug hole without getting any metal shavings in the cylinder. The main difference is that if you use a thread repair insert, the original spark plug size will fit in your engine; if you tap out the holewithout using an insert you will have to get a different spark plug for the cylinder that was repaired.

How to replace a cylinder head on 2001 Ford Expedition 4.6 L V8

Actually, rather than replace the head, you can fix the spark plug hole with a "Time-Sert":

http://www.timesert.com/

One thing they talk about on the site, "Ford spark plug blow-out? Repair kit part number 5553 Ford Triton spark plug kit will repair blown out spark plug's in Ford heads."
Here's the page for Ford's repair kits:

http://www.timesert.com/html/sparkplugford.html

I've used these for years, and they work great!
Much better than a Helicoil, as the Time-Sert retains full thread strength!

But....I would STILL recommend removing the head to do this repair, so as to avoid metal chips/shavings from falling into the cylinder, but you'll save the cost of a new head!

1985 Chevy: engine was idling, then i shut it off, when i went...

remove spark plug were the water was at. put your finger over the hole without burning yourself. have someone to turn the engine over a few times to see if more water comes out. try this on both spark plug holes one at a time. if you continue getting water from each plug hole then i would say you have a blown head gasket or maybe both depending if both plugs came from the same side,if not then both head gaskets are leaking. that problem would also make the truck or car run ruff/missing/hard to start. hope this will help you.

Spark plug threads in the the aluminum head was ruined. Have to pull the motor to replace the heads. Not sure how to get a engine hoist to fit.

some dealers have special tools to do this in the car. Call a few and ask them. Did plugs break off in head? Or were threads damaged when plugs were removed

1997 ford expedition spark plug blow, its all strip. its an aluim head. is there a quick fix or do i have to replace the whole freaking heads?

The Spark Plug hole can be repaired. The professional way is to remove the cylinder head, and use a repair such as a Helicoil.

The spark plug hole is tapped out to a larger thread size, with a special Helicoil tap. Loctite or some other form of thread locker is applied, and the Helicoil is inserted.

Helicoil's are made of Stainless Steel, and are much better than the original material used in the cylinder head. (Be it cast iron or aluminum)
Drag racers use Helicoil's in their engines.

Tapping out the spark plug hole for a Helicoil, or using a special thread chaser, is NOT a good idea, while the cylinder head is still installed on the engine.
The tap creates chips of metal which fall down into the cylinder.
Using a vacuum to try to alleviate the chips, falls short of a good repair job.

I have a 2003 toyota celica with a spark plug problem

hello, there are repair kits available for this, it involves rethreading the spark plug hole oversize then installing a steel insert. Most autoparts stores should have the complete kit with the tap and the insert
