I have a 99 a4 and it revs to about 1200 at first start, after a minute or so it lowers to about 750 rpm which is the norm.It has done this since it was bought. Also when the air condenser/conditioner is on it idles high. The condenser is run off the engine so i also lose a few horsepower.

I'm not sure what "transmission pulls when changing" means though, needs clarification.

wow 2000! check your pedal, because the engine is idling high when you shift it like your accelerating when you are actually "idling".

My audi 2.5 diesel auto rev high on the motorway & feels like its jumped out of gear

It sounds like your transmission is slipping. Check your fluid levels, if they're ok, then take it to a transmission shop and have them diagnose it. Could be anything from a linkage to a rebuild.

Transmission problem.what causes an a4 audi to hesitate to pull off on an incline??

one of two things...cheapest is to change your transmission fluid and filter first. or your pick up modulator is going bad.

I have an Audi A4 1997 automatic Just bought done 160,000km's. It's transmission is playing up - delays between changing of gears and does not change at the right time, often revs really high and for too...

You need to have a diagnostic run.It may not be a transmission problem , could be a bad speed sensor or throttle position sensor. A good diagnostic would be money well spent, you dont want to start swapping parts on this car.

This is a problem that is caused by internal pressure loss, that in most cases is due to the internal seals being hard from age and heat. This transmission will need to be overhauled.

Audi A4 Auto, Gear changing trouble

Did you change the transmission filter? Sounds like no Front pump pressure. dirty filter will cause cavitation of the pump and damage to pump. Damage to cutch packs will occur too. Do not run until investigating filter, make sure o ring or grommet in valve body is present for filter

Audi a4 1999 When I start the car in the morning it rev's high for a few minutes and then when it drops i can drive. what do i need to fix this problem ???

How high does it rev? It's supposed to hold around 1200RPM until the cats heat up (the secondary air pump causes this) to help with cold start emissions.

A4 Transmission shifting

Fist thing to do is change the transmission fluid and filter. Audi says the transmissions have lifetime fluid, but that's bull - change it first and see if that helps. If not, have the car scanned by a shop and have the chassis codes looked into. If there's a true electrical control problem, there should be at least one code stored (which may not trip the check-engine light).
