Cv shafts have been replaced as well as wheel bearings. fluid levels are topped off. brakes and rotors have been changed

No, I would say you are dead on! The gm pushbuttons for 4wd are notorious for that problem. If you pull the switch block out you will see it is a module. I had to put one in my 2000 silverado and it went for around sixty bucks at the dealer. Truth is even if it dosen,t fix your problem you will need one sooner or later.(but im pretty confident it will fix it!)
