Do they have any markings?
If not you could always buy or borrow a micrometer and measure the lobes. You should be able to find a lift profile on a parts website.
repair guids should have this info. There are also online repair guides.

BOOK words to follow

Trouble Code: P0016 (2.0L L4 VIN - Auto)
Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A)and read this.
The CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) system is installed to the chain sprocket of the intake camshaft. This system controls the intake camshaft to provide the optimal valve timing. The PCM controls the Oil Control Valve(OCV), based on the signals output from mass air flow, throttle position and engine coolant temperature. The CVVT controller regulates the intake camshaft angle using oil pressure through the OCV. PCM monitors timing misalignment while no active faults are present and fully warmed up engine oil at idle. If the timing is misaligned PCM determines that a fault exists and a DTC is stored. Possible Causes:
  • * Oil level, pressure and condition
  • * OCV
  • * CVVT
  • * Timing mark alignment
note their words, 4 thing wrong, here, VVT is bad.

cam shaft sensor error is

2009 Chevrolet Malibu LT 2.4L Manual - Camshaft Actuator replacement Bank 1 Intake

I think you are asking for the (VVT) solenoid/actuator. There is one solenoid for the intake and another for the exhaust. What are you looking for? Do you want to identify the part, troubleshoot that system or do you need the removal/installation procedure? I will say that this repair is one of the easier and better designs. Both actuators are side by side and clearly marked. Basically to access the solenoid remove the top engine cover. To remove the top cover remove the clamp to the air filter duct, clamp to the breather hose, clamp to the throttle body and the oil fill cap (the cover will pull off easily. You will see both censors on the top right end of the valve cover. Blow and clean the work area to avoid dropping debris into the engine. Remove the electrical connector, Remove the 10mm bolt and remove the solenoid. Coat the solenoid (lower chamber) with clean engine oil and install. If you need anything else please write back. Good Luck.

DTC P0008: Engine Position System Performance Bank 1

DTC P0009: Engine Position System Performance Bank 2
The presence of DTCs P0008 and P0009 along with P0016, P0017, P0018, and P0019 indicates a possible condition with the primary timing chain and the alignment between both intermediate sprockets and the crankshaft. Or, the crankshaft reluctor wheel has moved and is no longer referenced to top dead center (TDC).

?ā‚¬Ā¢
Observe the scan tool CMP Desired, Actual, and Angle Variance parameters before a DTC sets. This may help to isolate whether a condition is specific to one camshaft, one bank, or caused by a condition with the primary crankshaft timing.

I changed out the MAP sensor, and the idle air sensor on my 2006 Ford Taurus. This was before I had the fault code read at a dealer. Code came back as P0340, and P0430 Band 2 cat worn out. I had the cam...

P0340 FORD - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1Possible causes- Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor
- Camshaft Position Sensor harness is open or shorted
- Camshaft Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty starter motor
- Starting system circuit
- Dead (Weak) battery
P0340 FORD Description The Camshaft Position Sensor is an electronic device used in an engine to record the rate at which the camshaft is spinning. This information is used by the Engine Control Module(ECM) to control ignition and fuel injection. The camshaft position sensor senses the retraction of camshaft (intake) to identify a particular cylinder. The camshaft position sensor senses the piston position. The sensor system consists of a rotating part, typically a disc, as well as a static part, the actual sensor.

When the engine is running, the high and low parts of the teeth cause the gap with the sensor to change. The changing gap causes the magnetic field near the sensor to change. The change in the magnetic field cause the voltage from the sensor to change.

When the crankshaft position sensor (POS) system becomes inoperative, the camshaft position sensor provides various controls of engine parts instead, utilizing timing of cylinder identification signals.

MIL ON, DTC P0087, P1093 or P2293 Stored in ECM Fault Memory
MIL ON with the following DTCs may be stored in ECM fault memory:
DTC Description
P0087 Fuel Rail / System Pressure - Too Low
P1093 Fuel Trim 2, Bank 1 Malfunction
P2293 Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 Performance

Technical Background
Excessive wear of intake camshaft lobe that drives the high pressure fuel pump. The wear limits maximum pump piston lift, causing fuel rail pressure fluctuations.
The wear on the camshaft lobe can also lead to wear on the base of the high pressure fuel pump cam follower.
Production Solution
Increase surface hardening of camshaft lobe for the high pressure fuel pump
Improved intake camshafts have Part No. 06F109101B.
Service

ā€¢ Remove the high pressure fuel pump and visually inspect:
1. Base surface of the cam follower -6- in contact with the camshaft lobe.
2. Tip of the high pressure fuel pump plunger.
3. High pressure fuel pump camshaft lobe.

If the base of the cam shaft follower looks like -C- or -D-, no excessive wear is present.
Cam follower and camshaft should not be replaced.
If the cam follower base surface is excessively worn so that its surface is concave -B- or missing -A-, inspect the intake cam shaft lobe for wear.

cam.jpg

If the high pressure fuel pump camshaft lobe shows excessive wear, replace the intake camshaft with Part No. 06F109101B and the cam follower with Part No. 06D109309C, see Group 15 Engine - Cylinder head, Valvetrain in ElsaWeb.

Inspect the tip of the high pressure fuel pump plunger for excessive wear.
If excessive wear is found the high pressure pump must also be replaced, see Group 20 Fuel supply in ElsaWeb.
Tip:
High pressure fuel pump plunger damage is only possible if the cam follower base has a hole in it and the plunger tip has come in direct contact with the camshaft lobe.
If no excessive wear can be found in the high pressure fuel pump cam follower or intake camshaft lobe, or if the damage is found in camshafts with part number 06F 109 101 B, create a Technical Assistance Contact Ticket under the Concern Type Engine and Engine Electronics in ElsaWeb.
Attach the complete diagnostic log to the contact, and call the VW Technical Assistance Center for further assistance.

My car is showing PO344 (Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Intermittent) as a problem it's having... I replaced the camshaft sensor about 2 years ago when I was having a similar problem; could the sensor...

All ways, the camshaft position sensor signal sent to the ECM is intermittent

The Camshaft Position Sensor is an electronic device used in an engine to record the rate at which the camshaft is spinning. This information is used by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module(ECM) to control ignition and fuel injection.
