SOURCE: warning light on my car's dash board
hi, this warning light is either telling you the water level is low or the temp is to high.
If this light comes on as soon as the ignition is switched on then its more than likely low water level or it could be that the sensor itself as give up working, these are not that expensive to buy but check your water level first and top up if needed.
If the light comes on after you have been driving for a while then this is telling you it is getting to hot which usually means the thermostat needs replacing.
Any of these problem shouldnt cost to much to repair as their are plenty of parts available so will be cheap and easy to get.
Hope this is some help to you if you have any problems or questions then give me a shout back.
As for driving 300 miles then if the light comes on as soon as you start the car then you should be ok but if it comes on after the car has been driven then it could over heat and this can cause the head gasket to blow and then this mean very expensive repair. So if this is the case then when the light comes on its best you switch of and rest for 30min to get the temperature down. If the lights on as soon as you start the car then you should find you will be ok.
