4 wheel drive?, size motor? have you probed all the fuses under hood and dash? the spedo may be bad or a wire has been broke between the speed sensor and the spedo
the sensor magnet wheel in the output shaft of the tranny can be sliiping on the shaft but!! due to it being a 2001 model you more than likely ahve internal clutch pack issues and bad worn or burnt clutch disk that tranny will not perform with severe internal damage
well i would try replaceing that sensor first it is a speed sensor and it has a lot to do with the shifting of that tranny if it dose not work yea with what you have exsplained it is probly time for a tranny but this fix is worth a try thanks kdc744
