If the engine is hot, the fan will continue to run until the temperature is reduced, whether the key is on or not. However, if the fan continues after a few minutes, you may have a defective temperature switch which can be replaced by a mechanic or your dealer. If you can locate it and disconnect the wire connector, the fan should stop. If so, the switch needs replacement. Not a big job, and should not be expensive.

Fan will run for a certain period of time after shutting down motor of vehicle. This is normal. Your engine is still hot when you turn the key off. There are sensors that tell the computer when the engine is cool enough for the fans to shut off.

Depending which HVAC system you have Manual (sliders for temperature) or Auto (digital readout), the control module is likely at fault. The Manual HVAC has a Resistor Module (which have a high failure rate) and the Auto HVAC uses an electronic module. Both of these are mounted next to the blower motor located behind the glovebox.

check your cooling fan relays.... the solenoid might be stuck...tap on it with a screwdriver when you turn your key off and the fan may turn off ,,indicating a failing relay..

Both motor fans keep running after car is shut off
Faulty fan relay, little square box, costs an arm and a leg. Try the local automotive parts recycler, you can't get BWM parts at the junkyard :)
The little box is located, with teutonic efficiency, next to a bunch of little boxes just like it. Check your owner's manual or a shop manual for which one it is.

Fan doesn't turn off.
Its suppose to do that. if you leave the key in it will shut off when the coolant fan switch reaches preset temperature.
