SOURCE: my 92 ranger XLT hood will not close, 4 cyclinder,

In the front of the hood latch ( to the left and right of the unit) there are two mounting screws that actually hold the hood latch piece together. If those screws are loosened the latch can be moved left and right. Align the latch piece to the hood to make sure the hood catches. As long as the latch itself will work by pushing it down this works and it also helps with tight tension issue on the pull chord from inside of the cab.

1988 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4. Newly purchased dual fuel tank has an internal fuel pump, an inline pump, a fuel tank selector unit, and what looks like a second fuel tank selector unit (which is leaking).

The black reservoir/fuel tank selector unit you are referring to is the fuel tank switching valve, which is designed to switch between the two fuel tanks in your 1988 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4. This valve is responsible for directing fuel from the selected tank to the fuel pump and engine.
The second fuel tank selector unit you mentioned (part number 5sv2k) is likely a replacement part for the original fuel tank selector unit. It is not intended to replace the fuel tank switching valve.
The dual fuel tank system in your Ford Ranger requires both the fuel tank switching valve and the fuel tank selector unit to function properly. The fuel tank selector unit allows the driver to switch between the two fuel tanks, while the fuel tank switching valve directs fuel from the selected tank to the fuel pump and engine.
If the black fuel tank switching valve is leaking or malfunctioning, it should be replaced to ensure proper operation of your dual fuel tank system.

A guy just told me that there is a internal fuel pump and a external fuel pump on my 1988 ford ranger xlt 2.9 4x4. is this true?

In some applications, yes there is two.

On the 2.3L and the 2.9L engines to model year 1988 the electric fuel pump system used on these EFI engines consisted of two fuel pumps: a low pressure boost pump mounted in the fuel tank, and a high pressure fuel pump mounted on the frame rail.
The low pressure electric fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and is a part of the fuel gauge sending unit.

2001 ranger wont start after sitting

check the fuel pump and see is working properly, if the pump is good than the problems will be the crank sensor is faulty. what crank sensor does it sense the turning of the flywheel and it send a single to ecu, and ecu send a flow of power to turn on the fuel pump as long it sense the flywheel turning.

I just bought a 92 4,0 ranger xlt. When it warms up it loses fuel pressure and idles rough and dies when I come to a stop. I have to turn the key off for about 5 seconds and try to restart. Sometimes it...

You could have a slight vaccum leak that is preventing the fuel pressure regulator to operate correctly.

You fuel pump could be on the way out as well

You could have a crack in a fuel line

Have you changed your fuel filter?

Could be a couple of things, start there and see where it gets you.
