Do you have a check engine light, if so find out the code or codes which is set?
It may not even be the transmission; I had a 2000 safari which started shifting hard. As I remember it was the MAP or MAF sensor bad. May be some other sensor, with these vehicles' sensor talk to the computer and the computer tells when the transmission shift.
Mine acted like it was slipping and then shifted really hard. At the time mine was under warranty and took them about an hour to repair. I thought at the time my transmission had gone out, but it was electrical. I drove the van another 8 years before selling to a family member and never had any more trouble with the transmission.
CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID SOUND LIKE VECHICLE SLIPPING DUE TO LACK OF FLUID. CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID ON DIP STICK. WHILE ENGINE COLD FLUID LEVEL ON DIP STICK SHOULD FULL MARK.CRANK ENGINE LET VECHICLE IDLE TO WARM.THEN HOLD FOOT ON BRAKE SHIFT THROUGH ALL GEARS FEW TIMES CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL IF LOW ADD FLUID UNTIL YOU GET TO FULL MARK.IF YOU HAVE THE TRANSMISSION WITH NO DIP STICK.YOU NEED TO CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID + FILTER. YOU NEED 7 QUARTS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID.BUY DEALERSHIP TRANSMISSION PAN GASKET ITS THICKER MADE DIFFERENT WONT LEAK FLUID. THE TRANSMISSION GASKETS AT AUTO PARTS STORES TOO THIN LEAK FLUID BAD.
this is caused by a piston in the transmission that has a crack in it once it warms up the crack seals and operates normally.being cold the crack opens up allowing fluid to flow past it. take to trans shop as soon as you can, will be minimum repair if it has not caused further damage in the transmission.
