How much oil does my 3.8 liter Buick LeSabre require

I'm changing the oil on my car and cannot find my manual. How many quarts does it require? I believe it's 4 or 5, but not entirely sure.

SOURCE: 2004 Buick Lesabre uses quart of oil in 3K miles. Is this normal?

No it's not have your engine check for oil leaks, also have then do a wet and dry cylinder compression test this will let you know if you are burning oil, also have them check the spark plug's.Hope this was helpful.

SOURCE: 1995 buick lesabre limited, oil gauge issue

Could be two things, your oil pump pick tube is clog, oil pan would have to be drop to check, or your camshaft bearing worn causing low oil pressure,I would not say piston rod bearing or main bearing, cause there's no knock noise. You will have better oil pressure when cold due to oil much thicker. so I would forget about a bad oil pump.

How many quarts of oil in 89 buick lesabre?

Should be about 4.
When you add 4, then park the car on a level surface, and wait about 15 minutes, and then check the level with the dipstick.
The low line and the full line are 1 quart apart.
Be blessed.

Uses about a quart of oil between oil changes

all vehicles use some oil between changes
oil is splashed up the side of the piston bore.the pistons have compression and oil rings.the oil rings are to scrape the oil back down as the piston moves down,if this wasnt done you would burn oil every stroke and loose a lot more
1 quart between changes is no big deal

2000 buick lesabre has 64000 miles and uses a quart of oil in 3000 miles. Want to know what would cause this.

According to GM 1 quart per 1,500 miles is an acceptable oil consumption tolerance. 1 quart in 3k isn't bad.

I've had several gm 3.1 and 3.4 liters that have had there oil consumption issues remedied after the lower intake gaskets where replaced due to coolant leaking.

There are a couple of common problems that can cause oil consumption. Valve seals, bad rings, and PCV valves.

Valves seals would require a valve job which would requirethe removal of the heads. Rings would require a motor rebuild. Both of these are expensive options and oil is still pretty cheap.

Replacing the PCV valve might help. On the 3.8 it will be under the MAP sensor on the passenger side of the intake plenum.

As for as the intake gaskets, its a possibility but I don't have any hard evidence this could be the problem on a 3.8. Eventually the gaskets will start to leak oil. If you decide to replace them at that point I guess you will find out. I wouldn't do it on a hunch, its not a cheap repair.
