Blue smoke coming out of the exhaust indicates that oil is getting into the piston cylinder and being burned along with the gas. This could be a leaking head gasket, worn piston rings, or the wrong weight engine oil (viscosity too low). A leak down test will be needed to diagnose.
Have you checked your engine oil level?

sorry to spoil your day but white exhaust indicates that you have a blown head gasket or the head and/or the block is cracked

Hello;
Volumes of white smoke is an indication of water in the exhaust. A certain amount of vapor will be present on start up, but if it is different than what has been the norm for this vehicle then a check of the cooling system is in order.

Blue smoke come from burning oil. This means that you have an oil leak somewhere that it is getting burned up and exiting the muffler. First thing I would do would be to check your engine oil level. After you are sure that it is good, I would suggest taking the vehicle to a mechanic to have them see if they can find where the leak is. Let me know if you have any other questions. it's burning oil the problem is either a burnt valve or piston rings

Te blue smoke is oil getting into the piston/fire chamber..

If it is only at start-up - it is more than likely the valve seals.. Allot of the time they use plastic ones so therefor it is somewhat common for cars to do this..
If it is not to bad and stops soon after start-up,, its not really a big deal..

IF it is allot - and smokes all the time - it could be that the valve seals need to be replaced OR could be the piston rimgs are shot..

First you need to find out what is causing the smoke. What colour is the smoke?
White Exhaust smoke is usually coolant getting into the cylinders.
Blue Exhaust smoke is usually Oil getting into the cylinders and burning with the fuel.
Black Exhaust smoke is caused by the fuel to air mixture being too rich. This could be your Air Filter so check it is clean.
A common cause of Blue or White smoke is a blown head gasket. This can also show up as oil in the coolant tank and/or a 'mayonnaise' like buildup inside the Oil filler hole.

When first starting up smoke comes from exhaust and makes a loud noise

Black smoke is excess unburnt fuel. Blue smoke is oil being burned, if blue the valve stem seals may be allowing oil to seep down over night.

I have a 1982 Honda CBX 1000 Pro Link B motorcycle with 1800 genuine miles, it has been stood in a front room for most of its life and is in original superb condition. Runs superbly, but when I start to up...

first:
- replace the whole content of the gasoline tank until empty - then fill with fresh gasoline
second:
- after a long period of non-use blue smoke is normal and the engine needs about at least 15 min. to fully reach operating temparature.
the blue smoke will be then most probably disappear.
- so be patient and don't fuss around on the engine, carburetor etc.
Honda quality will not let you down...

What color smoke ? Blue = oil burning , black = too much fuel (rich) white = coolant - blown head gasket ,cracked head or block . White also could be caused fuel running through the engine , no combustion !

Symptom: Gray or blue smoke from the exhaust. You notice gray smoke coming from the exhaust when you start your car. The smoke may or may not disappear after the car is warmed. If it is, it is less noticeable. The smoke may have a bluish tint to it. Possible causes:

The engine's piston rings may be worn.
The Fix: Replace piston rings. (Generally not a DIY job)
The engine's valve seals may be worn.
The Fix: Replace valve seals. (Generally not a DIY job)
Damaged or worn valve guides.
The Fix: Replace valve guides. (Not a DIY job)

Symptom: Engine uses more oil than normal, and there is some smoke from the exhaust. The oil level is low between oil changes. It appears that the oil is being burned by the engine because of the smoke in the exhaust. You may or may not notice the engine doesn't have the same power as it used to.
Possible causes:

The PCV system is not working properly.
