I've taken my car to a local automotive store to check out the electrical system, They told me my starter is bad. How in the world does the starter have anything to do with the charging system? I'm on my third battery!

Curious: Does your car's starter work?
I've heard where a bad starter can develop a slight short which will draw down the power stored in your battery. They can test this using a volt meter. If your car is shut off, and no accessories are on (like headlights) there should be no draw from your battery and charging system so the volt meter should show no connectivity (current). If there is a short (somewhere), the meter will show connectivity/current running. With the car not running, the alternator can not charge your battery and eventually the battery will die out. Ask the shop how they determined it's your starter. I'm sure they will offer this explanation.

Your battery may not be holding its charge. Charge the battery and take a voltage reading. Then after a few hours take another reading andsee if the voltage has dropped. If that is alright, refit the battery to the car. turn off all the electrics anddo a voltage test. If the battery is discharging then ou will have to find what componant is drawing the voltage. I normally check the boot through the rear seats first.

i had this exact same problem ... under the hood onthe left side of the firewall where your starter solenoid and fuseable links are there is a little container type thing that holds a 20 amp fuse that fuse is probably blown the little container is on the firewall right below the fuseable links

Could be voltage regulator or starter relay has also gone bad. Seems to be fairly common in the Bauer editions.

there is a 125amp fuse on the side of the under hood fuse box make sure its still good battery will not charge if its blown out

Starter may be bad, or connection to the starter could be corroded or broken. There also may be a fuse, I'm not sure. Locate the starter and try running a jumper wire to it. Mini jumper cables will work. Hook those up to the battery and then run it to the starter. Ground it to a metal part and use the positive side to touch the power connector on the starter. IF the starter kicks, its a connection issue. If it doesnt, replace the starter.

The starter draws its power from the battery to start the truck. This draw is mesured in amps. If the starter is drawing too many amps it will ruin the battery by overextending the battery's capacity. The saying the starter is draging is usally a symptom of a bad or internally shorted started. Also bad or high resistance conections or (bad battery cables) can cause the same symptoms.So a bad conection or a bad starter will ruin the battery wich also will eventually ruin the alternator because the alternator will try to continually replace the large loss of capacity to the battery.
