I have a 1999 Toyota Camry (4 Cyl). It comes up to temperature relatively quickly and runs fine while driving. While stopped, the temperature will gradually increase coming close to the red area. I was thinking it might be the temperature sensor for the fan motors as they have not been running, but last evening I grabbed both radiator hoses... Upper one was hot, lower one with the thermostat is cold. Now I'm thinking it may be the actual thermostat. Anything else I might be over looking?
I do understand there will be some fluctuation in temperature as a result of stopping and starting and airflow over engine.
The sensor for the fans is in the rad at the bottom. T-stat may be bad or the rad may be clogged. Cooling system needs attention.
I have a similar problems, I have a new water pump, radiator, because the unstable temperature issues,
I removed the thermostat and alter the radiator fan on when the engine starts.
SO the temperature gauge always shows up to 20% of the dashboard gauge. But today when I drive it
about 20 minutes, the temperature gauge suddently gone up nearly to red, So I stop the car
and check the engine seems not as hot as usaul, 10-15 minutes later I try to start the car
the gauge back to 10% of gauge, what would it be? any suggession?
