How to tighten fan belt on 1999 fairmount ghia v8

The cars today do not have belt adjustments they have what is caller a idler pulls that keeps a serpintine belt "all in one belt" that snakes around all the pulleys, thus the serpintine..name..anyway if it is slipping most likely the belt needs replacing or the idler itself is bad..neither can be adjusted..the fix is replacement...your car should have a belt route under the hood showing where it goes and the idler is spring loaded and easy easy to take the pressure off to take the old belt off and replace it..not a big job for garages if you wish not to DIY .good lucK

Replacing serpintine belt, belt keeps slipping off, How can you fix? 1999 pontiac grand am

Sounds like the belt tightener unit is wore out and needs replacing.
As the bearings wear out the pulley will move around causing the belt to come off. When you replace the tightener you should replace the belt as well.

CHANGING SERPINTINE BELT "98 WANGLER

Somewhere in the world there may be a specification for that but in reality, just make the pulley through bolt tight (without being and animal on it). The long jack bolt gets tightened first. There, you check belt deflection. You should have about one inch or slightly less deflection in the center of the longest run of the belt. After getting it to that point, lock it and tighten the pulley. Run it for a few minutes and then drive it. If the belt squeals, loosen the adjustment and give it a few more turns. Do not over-tighten it. A loose belt will be noisy. An overtightened one can destroy component bearings.

Replace serpintine belt

You shouldn't need to most of the time all you need is a 15mm wrench. Use it by turning the spring tightener inward toward the center of the motor than the belt should come off. Also when you take it off make sure you know how the belt goes around the pulleys so everything will work together like normal. when putting the belt on you should use the wrench to turn the tightener back inward and slip the belt back on and make sure it looks just like the old one when its on.

Nebettleed to change serpintine belt on a 2000 voltswagen

The easiest solution I can say would be to go to parts america or Advance Auto Parts during a non peak time and ask for help. These belts should be a 5 minute replacement and most store employees will enjoy offering you the free service just to get out of the store for a few minutes. SOME stores are more willing to help than others.

(If you over tighten the belt you will have problems and if you under tighten the belt you will have squeals. If you still wish to do this yourself just make sure the belt is tight enough that it only turns 90 degrees in the middle to the left of right when tightened.)
