When the light blinks for OD (5th) gear it means that a fault exists in the mechanical or electronic control systems of the transmission, you need the system scanned for the fault code(s)

Flashing D5 transmission will not shift into gear

You would need to contact a dealer for that info. They will need the VIN as well as mikeage. Most recalls affect specific vin and have a mileage limit

D5 light blinking and not taking off in first gear

Most probable cause; an electrical connector, probably transmission solenoid shift valve, got disconnected while replacing mounts.

D4 or d5

In your Lincoln LS, you will have 3 transmission options to choose from. The first is the SelectShift, which operates similar to a manual transmission but without the clutch. The other 2 are the D4 and D5 options that you are referring to. The number after the D is really a reference to how many gears it will shift through. D4 = 4 gears, D5 = 5 gears. All that being said, it really should operate closer to a 4 gear transmission with an overdrive gear when the car is in D5. Think of it like the "drive" and "overdrive" in other cars. I have heard that to maximize fuel economy, use D5 for highway driving and D4 for city driving.

The transmissions on the cars are horrible. The torque converter is usually the cause. Call the dealer. Your transmission can seize and stop causing you to crash.

When do I use the d 5 gear in acura 2003 tl 3.2 liter

Pretty much all the time!

D3, D4, and D5 are all just *DRIVE* like on any automatic transmission, EXCEPT
that the number next to the D is the "highest gear the automatic transmission will go into".
The Acura just gives you a choice, in case you don't want to go into a higher gear (like if it's slippery traction or a steep hill, etc.)

1 means: Manual gear. FIRST GEAR ONLY.
2 means: Manual gear. SECOND GEAR ONLY.
D3 means: Use automatic transmission, but engine will never shift above 3rd gear.
D4 means: Use automatic transmission, but engine will never shift above 4th gear.
D5 means: Use automatic transmission, but engine will never shift above 5th gear.

Neutral light blinks

Hi,

Mitsubishi's electronic transmission has a built-in diagnostic....which is indicated via the 'N' (Neutral) light on the instrument cluster.

When the diagnostic computer detects 2 or more of the same fault (which does not rectify itself), then the transmission goes into "LIMP MODE' - this is to protect the transmission from further damage, but will allow you to drive in 3rd gear.

First, we need to ascertain what "sequence" the 'N' light is flashing:

If the N light flashes ONCE per second, then there is an abnormality with one of the transmission components, and will require accessing the computer for further trouble codes.

If the N light flashes TWICE per second, then the transmission fluid is overheating also - pull over, let engine idle in N for a few minutes to allow it to cool down.

Turning key off will only reset the computer momentarily, until and the transmission goes back into LIMP MODE again, so further diagnostic investigation will be required.

If you are technically inclined, i'm happy to explain how you can access the computer codes, without a code reader.

Let me know...

Cheers,
