P0171 OBD II Trouble Code This site may help locate the problem. Unfortunately these trouble codes do not necessarily pin-point a problem. They merely direct you to the general location of a problem i.e. a faulty system or circuit. So I advise you go down the list of possible causes, and check the PCV valve, and vacuum lines, etc. I hope this helps! Good Luck....

could be to many thing to take chances with, but most commonly;fuel filter,gas line antifreeze or a crack in your air intake which would take your vacuum seal away, start with the least expensive and work from their. Worst case scenario pinched fuel line

Irwinr12 is right, no amount of fan will keep the Regal from warming up if the thermostat is working properly, Replace it. Clear SES light with OBDII tool & you should be good to go. BTY its the car computer that keeps the fans running, and they will continue to run until you clear the code. Any kind of cooling/overheating proiblem will kick in the SES light and set both fans running. I own '01 GS, my son has '03 GS and we have both complete set of service manuals. Per your description, it sounds as though you have a stuck injector. I assume you have a service engine light on. Take the vehicle to your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts and ask them to scan the car for trouble codes, they will scan the vehicle at no charge to you.
Write the codes down and respond back to this post and we can get started.

you need to find someone with an old type scan tool,or one that has an adapter for the older cars to read the codes. you can also do this by jumping 2 wires on tha obd connector and count the flashes. the first suggestion is the best. get the code and get back to me and we'll go from there. hope this helps Thanks Ray

i'd say you have a ground problem if you are burning up alternators... sorry if that don't help... i would have to see car to better appreciate problem.
