Rubbing noise from front of car

have the cv joints checked out and check that the rubber boots are not loose and rubbing on the metal surrounds.

when your brake pads get worn out they will make a slight grinding noise and when you depress your brakes they will go away .p[retty soon they will grind when you press on brakes.

Harmonic balancer.

most likely you will find that there is a plastic gard up above the tyre. if it has come lose then sometimes one end of it can flop down and rub aainst the tyre. this will usually happen when you go through a dip because the suspension let the tyre go closer to the gard at the same time the plastic bit hangs lower as the car goes through the dip. when my car did this I also found that when I tok my foot off the accelerator the front of the car would drop down causing the suspension to do the same thing as when it goes through a dip. also some corners and and uneven roads do the same thing.

HAVE YOU TIRES BALANCED

Check the disk brake pads. At slower speeds you can hear them squeak because there is less wind and road noise. The other possibility could be a bad u joint at the ends of the axle half shafts on the front differential. Check both. I really doubt it is the transfer case. You transfer case is engaged all the time. The axle is locked and engaged when you flip the lever by a vacuum motor on the axle shaft on the differential.

It could be a number of things, but a common problem with this car is rusty pins in the front end.  This is louder when turning.  There was a bulletin issued about it.

It sounds like you need a tune change at least the wires and plugs it also could be a worn or broke motor or tranny mount.

Check the condition of front disc brake pads, if they are in need of replacement a preset little metal arm starts rubbing the discs and will make a whining noise. It doesn't do any damage but it's irritating to listen to.

I may be a wheel bearing. Try shifting the weight of the car on the front tires by turning the wheelslightly while driving about 30 MPH. Don't turn enough to change lanes, just enough to put the load on the outside bearing. It may quiet down in one direction. The failed bearing is generally the side that you turned to in order to make the noise go away. Say the noise goes away when you steer to the right, the failed bearing is usually the right one.

You can also check for play by jacking up the car and shaking the tire. There should be no play.
