Porsche keys Hi, thanks in advance for hopefully answering my question, We've just purchased a 1989 928 Porsche and only have one key for it. We're in New Zealand and it seems there is NO where that

928 s4 Porsche 300 kw 32 valve V8 key cutting problem. No key cutters in New Zealand can do it. We have found places that have blank keys but no machinery to cut the angle.

Find the Porsche dealer service centre / parts department as they will have replacement keys and probably a key cutting and programming machine.

SOURCE: broken ignition barrel ford laser 1989 model

Hi,

this is the procedure to remove the ignition barrel:

Remove the steering column surround and you should see a black round thing on the left hand side, this is the ignition switch. Remove this and you will see there is one screw holding the ignition barrel on, remove and you then need to insert your key and turn it to the ACC position. you should now be able to withdraw the barrel using the key but take care not to snap the key off in the barrel.

Please don't forget to rate or accept the solution as fixya.

Goodluck..

SOURCE: reprogramming remote and key

if its early 05 round heart shaped remote it needs programming into system at dealer with Tech2
later 05 to 07 had square (rectangle) shaped remote
1.2 ID Code Additional Registration
Note: This procedure will add additional remotes to the Keyless Entry Control Units memory. A total of 4 remote transmitters may be programmed into the Keyless Entry Control Units memory. When a total of registered and newly registered remotes exceed 4, the oldest one shall be erased.
Step Action
1 Note: Make sure that all the doors are closed and unlocked. Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch.
Open the driver's side door.
2 Turn the Ignition key to the “ON” position and then to the “LOCK” position three times
(The key should remain in the “LOCK” position)
Note: This step must be carried out within five seconds.
3 “CLOSE” and “OPEN” the driver’s doors once (Leaving the driver’s door in the “OPEN” position)
Note: This step must be carried out within five seconds after step 2 is completed.
4 Wait for 8 seconds (This wait time is critical)
5 Turn the Ignition key “ON” and then to the “LOCK” position once and turn key to the “ON” position (The key should remain in the “ON” position)
OR on/lock once
Note: This step must be carried out eight seconds after step 3 is completed.
6 “CLOSE” the driver’s door
The HAZARD lights should flash 3 times (This acknowledges the Keyless Entry Control Unit has entered programming mode)
7 Operate the lock or unlock button of the transmitters to be programmed; a flash of the HAZARD lights indicates the remote has been successfully programmed into the control unit
8 The HAZARD lights will flash approx 4 seconds after pressing the remote button to indicate the Keyless Entry Control Unit has exited programming mode.

Hi, having problems closing the rear tail gate on my Porsche Cayenne 2013. It opens up half way when I push the key, then to open fully it needs another push on the key. But to close it only goes down half...

I haven't come across the problem before but I am increasingly hearing of modern cars thinking for themselves (as they are designed to do), the trouble is they sometimes become disoriented and feeling they must try and behave normally they put 2 and 2 together and make five.

Usually it is a case of automatic windows that are closed before they expect to be closed and think they have encountered an obstruction and so go into reverse.

I think it needs dealer diagnostic equipment to reset these things...

Does a porsche boxster 2001 need a chip in the key?

It might be that you are not using the car for several day in which case the key has to be inserted into the drivers door to unlock as the remote function is disabled if not activated ie if the car is out of use fo more than 3 days. Also if this happens you have to put key in the ignition and turn to deactivate the alarm otherwise the alarm will sound. Hope this tip is useful to all porsche drivers with key problems...Blando

1999 Porsche Boxster. The key will not turn in the switch. Thanks!!!

If you have one key then the problem could be a worn key, you should try another key if you have one. If the key is not worn, then there is a problem in the ignition lock cylinder or possibly the steering wheel locking mechanism.

Extra key lock

It's kind of crazy to think of it now, but back in the 80's, Porsche thought this was the most stylish practical place to put the switch for the alarm system. Some of them have it, some don't, as it was an option.
