P0734 hyundai The Illinois Emissions Test center said my car came up with the following codes: P0650 and P0734. A mechanic said I need to replace the onboard computer and the transmission (it's an automatic). The car drives fine and has no problem.

Hi. P0650 : check engine light bulb burn or disconnected.
P0734 : pulse generator sensor no signal
1: replace light bulb on instrument cluster
2: replace sensor on transmission
3: clear computer code and drive 15-20 min.
If the P0734 come back transmission need to be rebuilt
Use factory recommended fluid only.
good luck

SOURCE: 2002 hyundai accent codes p1529 and p0734

P1529 means nothing more than the TCM (transmission control module) has requested that the ECM (engine control module) turn on the check engine lamp.
P0734 basically indicates that your transmission is slipping.
You need to take this car to an authorized repair center for hyundai cars. Replacing the filter and fluid on the transmission might save this transmission but I would be willing to bet that a total transmission rebuild is in order.

Good Luck

P0734 - 4th gear incorrect ratio. P1529 Malfunction Indicator Lamp Request. Problem is in the transmission.
Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.

SOURCE: 2002 hyundai accent.transmission works great

Hi

Well two of the tranny codes ; P0734 and PO732 indicate gear 2,3,4 ratio incorrect. This can be caused by poor readings at the input and output speed sensors or pulse generators. The P1709 code is in reference to the kickdown servo switch.

Replacing the pulse generator set and TCM reprogramming( as per TSB) may solve your problem, otherwise you have a major component failure in the transmission unit. I would get some line pressures at the transmission checked first.

Sounds like the transmission is in fail safe mode, this happens when there is a transmission fault, you only have two gears 2nd and reverse.

Hope this helps - Steve

08 hyundai code p0734 is the only fix tranny replace

most P0734 codes are due to misshifts in the auto tranny. Most often due to a faulty PCM, ECM, TCM or internal blockage, 4th gear is not engaging correctly

My 2000 hyundai elantra is automatic it has a code p0734. which the mechanic explained me that i have to get the speen sensor replace and get new clutch because the 4 gear ratio is bad. pls advice what 2...

P0734=A/T 4th gear incorrect ratio. This has nothing to do with the speed sensor. If the speed sensor was faulty, it would also set OTHER gear incorrect ratio codes. My experience tells me the 4th gear incorrect ration indicates the torque converter clutch (TCC) is slipping and nothing more. Unless there was a speed sensor DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code), the sensor is not the issue (yet). The fact P0734 was set (trust the computer), the TCC is slipping (out of range). Question: Maintenance history may indicate the wrong transmission fluid may have been introduced. Hyundai's Transmission fluid is strictly SPIII... there is no substitute. The incorrect fluid will cause 4th gear slippage. Now, having said that, it doesn't mean the 4th gear (lock-up) clutch isn't worn out. Have a qualified/certified Hyundai Service Technician properly diagnose this issue.

Car sometimes wont start unless you spray starter fluid, just replaced filter. oem codes are p0734 and p1401

P0734 = 4th gear incorrect ratio (that's the torque converter 'lock-up' clutch - inside the converter).
P1401 = doesn't exist for 2002 Hyundai Accent's
P1401 exists for 2000 Accent = DM-TL Air Pump Motor Curent Draw is higher or lower than expected (normal is 17-36 mA). DM-TL = Diagnostic Module for Tank Leakage & is part of the Evaporative Emissions Control System.

These two DTC's are not associated/part of the Accent's Engine Managemenet System (EMS).
Best to have a qualified/certified Hyundai Service Technician properly diagnose this starting problem with your vehicle.

P0734

Description of fault code P0734:

This code is set if the value of input shaft speed is not equal to the value of the output shaft, when multiplied by the 4th gear ratio, while the transaxle is engaged in 4th gear. This malfunction is mainly caused by mechanical troubles such as control valve sticking or solenoid valve malfuctioning rather than an electrical issue.

From experience (sorry) you will end up replacing the transmission. This code usually indicates an internal mechanical failure.

First problem P0734, then some internal failure, now 3rd tranny

Take it back to the dealer and have them test the TPS. The PCM takes information from the TPS to control the transmission fluid pressure that controls the firmness of the shifts and the amount of fluid pressure to hole the gears in place. The reading from the TPS should be smooth and constant. it the TPS passed then it's a good chance that your looking at another transmission. P0734 mean's the 4th gears are slipping. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help.
