If it's a fuel pressure problem, could it be the filter?

fuel pressure problem could be the pump the flow filter in the pump or the filter on the line. if the fuel pressure is ok before the fuel regulator and not after the regulator then the regulator can be the problem, fuel filter in the tank around the area the pump is hit the bottom while the engine is not running this can sometimes push the tank sediment out of the pump filter, fuel filter this would need replacing, its recommended to change them around every 2 to 3 years. regulators, they dont really go wrong but if they do its usually from much getting to the regulator, via a damaged filter, you would need to remove the regulator and back flush it with the regulator in the open positing some are electric and some are vacuum feed. usually if the take feed is slow and it blocks at the tank then replace the fuel filter 2 to 3 times, as the pump can pass the muck into the filter over time.

93 deville burns alot of fuel, like a gallon a mile; no leaks in fuel line. Any suggestions?

A ruptured diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator will let extra gas enter the engine through the vacuum line to the regulator. Pull off the regulator vacuum line. Any evidence of gas? Let the engine idle a couple of minutes with the vacuum line off. If any gas starts coming out of the vacuum line nipple on the regulator, then that was the problem. Replace the fuel pressure regulator.

94 z28 chevy camaro fuel pressure check valve location and is there any other names for this item I recently installed a stock replacement fuel pump in my camaro I run 35psi which is low at idle unplug the...

do you mean the pressure relief valve, this is located normally on the low pressure or return side of your fuel rail, this is designed to maintain fuel pressure in your fuel rail constant, e.g. steady running requires steady pressure, acceleration requires increased pressure controled by engine vacuum, if it was on the supply line you can not regulate the pressure supplied to the injecters. stopped engine requires no pressure so the pump gets turned off with the ignitionf

How to replace fuel pressure regulating valve

1991-94 Models - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Remove the air intake tube and resonator assembly.
  2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Remove the bolts from the fuel line clip.
  4. Using a 15 / 16 in. (24mm) backup wrench to prevent damage to the inlet port and bracket, disconnect the fuel inlet and return lines from the pressure regulator/fuel rail assembly.
If difficulty is encountered accessing the fuel return line nut, loosen and/or remove the fuel supply and rail attachment fasteners.
  1. Disengage the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose.

  1. Do not remove the O-ring from the retainer in the pressure regulator fuel outlet, unless it is damaged and requires replacing. Always remove and discard the O-ring from the fuel inlet.
To install:
  1. Lubricate the new fuel inlet O-ring and, if necessary, the new outlet O-ring with clean engine oil, then install the O-ring(s) in the pressure regulator assembly.
  2. Position the regulator assembly to the fuel rail. Coat the threads of the attaching bolt with Loctite® 242 or an equivalent threadlock, then install the bolt and tighten to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  3. Connect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose.
  4. Connect the fuel inlet and return lines, then tighten the lines to 133 inch lbs. (15 Nm) using a backup wrench to prevent port damage.
  5. Cycle the ignition switch to prime the fuel system, then start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
  6. Turn the ignition OFF and install the air intake tube and resonator assembly.

Hope this helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).

It idles real high when i shift gears. its an automatic and when i go slow it sometimes shuts off

Sounds like a fuel pressure problem check fuel regulator by taking vacuum line off and checking for fuel laying inside line.If fuel is in line replace regulator. If no fuel in line then check pressure it should be 9-13 psi with key on engine off.If not within specs replace pump.

1997 Z-71, 5.7 vortec. Let truck sit for 3 days. When started up, idled rough. Take off is slow. changed plugs, no good. what next?

I would check the fuel pressure regulator, remove the vacuum line from it and start the engine. Look for fuel coming out of the vacuum port on the regulator. If you see fuel, replace the regulator due to a ruptured diaphram

Adjusting fuel pump

If you have the 91 3.1 V6 Rodeo you can't adjust the fuel pump or fuel pressure. The only thing you can really do is to get a throttle body rebuild kit that will have a new diaphragm for the fuel pressure regulator. If you want to adjust it, you'll have to get an aftermarket regulator and install on the return line (the smaller line) and remove the spring out of the regulator on the throttle body. If you feel the fuel pressure is too low, then you might need to change the pump. Its located in the fuel tank, only takes 1 or 2 hours to do.
