SOURCE: 1992 Isuzu Rodeo Distributor wires 3.1L engine

Hi,
Isuzu seem to have complicated things by changing engines, firing orders and even direction of rotation! As you can see, they've numbered the cylinders the other way than the 3.2L.

The Firing sequence for the 3.1 (traditional distributor) 6 cylinder is as follows -

d6e5b2a.jpg

If you take the distributor cap off, there should be a "No.1" formed on the inside. Stick a lead on this before you put the cap back on and go from there.
As leads are different lengths, you may have to swap a few to find the best fit.

I think 2 of them will look out of place - but that's the way it's designed. Just make use of clips for holding them neatly.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Did you sync up the engine properly when you reinstalled the timing belt/chain? It is possible to be on the marks and be 180 degrees off. Align the timing mark on the crankshaft then check the rotor position. If it doesn't point to number one wire terminal position roll the engine over until the crank lines up to the timing mark again. The distributer needs to be pointing the wire terminal that goes to number cylinder.Any other position is unacceptable and you can't simply turn the distributer to number one either You need to retime the crankshaft to the camshft making sure that the distrubitor points to number one and both valves for number one cylinder are completely closed.

I would check for a bad plug wire next and then a compresson test on #5 cylinder.
