Hi, My car will run fine for a few miles then it starts hesitating and jerking and when I press the gas pedal more the engine light goes off and it drives normal. It has also been stalling when I come to a stop sometimes.
There should be a trouble code or codes stored in the engine computer. A hand held scanner could retrieve them-go to Autozone for a free scan service. The codes indicate to a mechanic where to start looking-whether it is a fuel, or air, or ignition spark delivery problem.
Things that should be checked are the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, check fuel pressure, check for air obstructions into the engine (like a dirty throttle body inside-sometimes a cause of stalling), check for vacuum or air leaks that let unmetered air into the engine. There is an ideal ratio of gas to air mixture that the computer is always trying to achieve. When it does, the engine runs fine and gas mileage is optimum. This is why it is important to keep up with regular maintenance and service. Get the codes to see if the computer is doing what it does best, better even than an old mechanic with a good ear.
My car is a 1994 they said they couldn't do it.
ok, here's a link to Nissan code retrieval procedure and code descriptions. I'm not certain your infiniti is the same as Nissan cars of same years (anything before 1996). Nissan was very design and engineering conscious- some unique methods that are actually owner friendly. So I hope this helps: http://www.2carpros.com/articles/nissan-...
