SOURCE: I have a 1996 Chevy

The fuse is blowing because you have a short in the one of the power wires that go to the trans. You need to chase the power wire for the trans and find where it is rubbing on metal or to a ground wire.Should be the pink 1020 wire that goes from the connector at the drivers side of the trans to the fuse box.Hope this helps.Let me know what you found and good luck.

You don't say what year, make or model your Chevy is, so I can only give your a general answer.

I assume the you have a floor shift manual 6 speed transmission. The most likely problem is a broken shift actuator rod in the transmission.

The shift handle goes into the top of the transmission. On the end of shifter there is a ball or rounded end. The end goes into three or four slots on the top of the gear case. Each slot is connected to a rod that controls a particular set of gears. ie 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and reverse is by itself. Moving the shifter left and right select which slot the shifter controls and the forward-back moment selects the gear.

On some model cars the top or the gear case can be accesses from inside the vehicle by removal of the rubber boot around the shifter. There is a small chance that the repair could be made without removal of the transmission. The problem could also be major if the internal gear (packs) or bearings are damaged. In either event, you will need the services of an experienced transmission mechanic.

I hope this helps, If you can leave a further question in the comment, perhaps I can give you more information. Good Luck.

J

Sounds like a bad fuel pump.Check the pressure it should be 60-66 with key on engine off. If its the 5.7 or 5.0 engine. The fuel injectors on these motors need at least 52 psi to open the poppet valve inside the injector to allow fuel thru.

TRANSMISSION

Fuse # 20 or 21 gets power through ignition. This fuse controls PRNDL indicator, speedometer, tach, & will cause transmission to not shift gears correctly. Ours took off in 3rd gear when put in Overdrive & only ran in 3rd gear. If we tried to manually shift thru gears (auto trans), it had 1st, 3rd, reverse. No 2nd or over drive. Replaced ignition. Fixed problem. Root problem was Electric motor that engaged 4 wheel low side was bad. Every time we used 4 Low side it threw power surge through ignition & blew ignition out. Good Luck.

Your linkage, which is located on the top side of your transmission has probably shifted, or the bushing that holds it in place probably broke..

Did you cycle the key a couple times. Sometimes it needs to reset the computer after the battery dies. Also, try holding the gas pedal to the floor while turning over. This will help if flooded with gas from starting so many times.

06 ford focus 5spd. no 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear.

It sound like the gear linkage isn,t set up right, you wouldn,t always be able to engage a gear unless you rocked the car.

97 Chevy truck cluster and transmission

I would say its your Ignition switch or the fuse for tranny is blown or the tranny is unplugged. My truck had a problem where it was stuck in third gear, the tach never moved, the gear indicator light went out.I left it at the tranny shop all day and nobody could find the problem. All you need to do is check your fuses with a test light.I looked at all my fuses and they were all good but when I used a test I found that some fuses didnt have power supplied to them from the ignition switch.Your fuses need power on both sides to complete that circiut. So I would say go get a test light because they are cheap and check your fuses before you go right back to the parts store for that ignition switch.Good Luck
