It sounds like the choke isn't closing on the carburetor when the engine is cold ( more gas, less air). normally step on gas pedal once to close choke before starting. need to find someone familiar with carburetors to help as it can be technical setting it up

SOURCE: car wont stay started, have to sit in it and push

Try replacing the Idle Air Controller. These cars have a seperate air source for Idle and throttled operation. That is why you have to keep your foot on the gas to keep it running.

Check your IAC (cold start) value. This could be the culprit.

1985 toyota corolla wont start...

First, I'm not a Toyota representative.
* Take your car to the nearest Toyota dealer/shop.

*** Following is for information only.***
* Starting Fluid???? Did you pour this in the tank or carb? (make a difference)
* Did you read and follow the instructions for this "Starting Fluid"
* There are gas additives to improve performance, clean engine, increase octane, stabilize ethanol, etc.
* I've never heard of "starting fluid" that is poured into tank. (though I could be wrong. Maybe some "newfangled" thing from China? (hey, I'm Chinese so I can say that.)
* Most Engine Cold starts are in spray form usually called "Carb Cleaner", Cold Engine start spray, Or generic Acetone spray. Remove the air filter and couple of sprays in carb tunnel then start car. May need to do it several times in real cold weather.
* If this is not the same stuff you used then you will need to take care down to shop to drain tank, replace fuel filter, clean out carb.
* Be careful and read instructions or ask the counter guy for help.

After my 1996 honda civic ran out of gas i put in some more gas and now it will not start ,any suggestions

it takes a bit for the gas to get up to carb after running out. you just need to pump the heck out of gas peddle while trying to start car. or have some one pour a little gas in carb to prime it . hope this helps

My jimmy runs fine once it starts, but i have got to pour a little gas in the throttle body every time to start it

Fuel Pump. Fuel Pumps in some of the newer GMs cannot have a loss of more than 2-3 PSI otherwise cold start pressure is not there.

I have to use starter fluid to get my truck running and than when running it will die in idle and not restart without adding more starter fluid? what can i do?

It sounds like it's not getting fuel. Are you in a cold climate? The gas line could be frozen. You can check the fuel pump by disconnecting the gas line at the carb, you may want to put a length of hose on the line and catch the gas in a coffee can. Then have someone crank the engine while you watch to see if gas squirts out of the line. I wouldn't use too much starting fluid, you can damage your engine, pour a little gas in the carb instead. Also, on a truck of that age the gas line could have a hole rusted in it between the tank and the fuel pump. If that's the case the pump will not pull the gas out of the tank it will draw air instead. It could be the fuel pump itself. If you have a good stream of gas to the carb then the problem is in the carb. It could be the needle valve is stuck shut, take a screwdriver and lightly tap on the carb, that will sometimes jar the needle loose. If you have gas to the carb it could also be clogged jet inside the carb. I you hold the choke partialy closed will it stay running then?

Carb gas pouring out of hole on top front of carb

Sounds like the float has absorbed gasoline and can't ftoat anymore. This causes the fuel to not be shut off when float bowl is full causing the carb to flood. You will have to buy a carb kit and a float and rebuild the carb. Hope this helps.
