To find out exactly where the modulator valve is located, I would reccommend you goint to your local parts store and asking them to print you a copy of the exploded diagram of the transmission and all its components. Aske them to point out the modulator valve for you.

I think that the modulator valve has failed. It isn't a tough fix. Get a new one and replace it and you should be okay.

First I suggest to check transmission fluid levels. Some "check engine" light on dashboard?

SOURCE: My 1989 Jeep with AW4 transmission does not downshift or ?

This model has a tranny computor under the dash on the right side screwed to the bottom of the dash. If I remember correctly, there is also an inline fuse attached to the harness. Check the fuse.

SOURCE: 02 jeep liberty won't shift into 3rd or 4th gear.

Ratio codes generally indicate a pressure loss & slipping which the computer reads as a gear ratio problem. Likely you need a rebuild.

SOURCE: 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited starts in 3rd gear

oil pressure problem should be checked independently of other problems...Use a good accurate mechanical gauge to check. If pressure is good (no less than 15psi at idle hot (I prefer to see at least 20) check dash grounding, block ground and if OK, change sending unit. Dash and body ground can influence operation of shift and body control modules so indirectly your problem may or may not be related, depending upon what you find while testing. And it could turn out to be a defective module! They are expensive and just plugging new ones in may work, but then again, it might not. I might be totally incorrect on this...that's the value of actually being there instead of doing this by "remote control".
If you read the numerous posts pertaining to all vehicles, you will see that you are not alone with electrical problems...As long as the engineers who design this stuff, keep using "modules" to replace ordinary simple and reliable systems, we will continue to have these problems. Do some testing and I'm sure you will find a solution! (I'm still waiting for someone to make a program for a PC that will give a complete readout of every system in a vehicle, including exact faults instead of general system "suggestions")
Good luck

What will cause 1996 jeep grand cherokee to buck like it is shifting out of overdrive. How can I fix it

There are several potential causes for a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee to "buck" or shift out of overdrive. Some possible causes include a faulty transmission control module, a malfunctioning overdrive solenoid, or a problem with the transmission's governor pressure. To determine the specific cause of the issue and how to fix it, a diagnostic scan of the vehicle's computer should be performed, and the transmission should be inspected by a qualified mechanic. They can check for any issue with the solenoids, wiring, or other parts that may be causing the problem. If a specific issue is identified, it can be repaired or replaced as necessary. It would be best to get it checked by a professional.

When did you last replace trans filter and fluid? Dirt may be causing shift valve to stick.

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee wont shift into 4th it only goes to third what would cause the 4th gear to not engage

There are several things that could cause that.
> Replacement transmission not equipped with overdrive
> Overdrive solenoid in replacement transmission defective
> Overdrive control circuits damaged or loose pins or connections.
> Gear shift linkage or cable out of adjustment
> Transmission range sensor malfunction or out of adjustment

Since you have a computer-controlled transmission, it would be better to ask the onboard computer that question....you will probably get a much more definitive answer.

I have a 1999 jeep cherokee that has intermitant transmission problems 1)shifting up it wind out to 2k-3k before shifting 2) at higher speed it feels as if it slips out of overdrive rpm increase but speed...

It will shift out of overdrive upon increasing throttle , pulling hills and so on. Your overdrive probably kicks in around 35 to 45mph and kicks back out as you increase throttle. Electrically controled speed sensor to control the response. Overwise the engine would bog down to a stall. Over drive is just that. It changes the gearing ratio to over drive meaning less then final gear 4 to 1 down to 4 to 3 etc more direct drive ratio to lessen consumtion of fuel with less stress on engine. Have shift speed sensor adjusted. Don't drive in overdrive in city if most driving is under 45mph

Odd shifting 99 jeep grand cherokee

A common problem with most overdrive units.Overdrive should only be used above 40 mph. With the mileage odds are that you need to have transmission looked at professionally. It maybe time to consider rebuilding it.I do not see a trans service of being a benefit.

Tranny wont shift

Sounds like you need a rebuild on your transmission. The overdrive is going out in the transmission system.
