I have an automatic 2005 Kia Sportage. The gear change into 3rd is very rough, and won't change down without me switching off the engine. Its not a gearbox problem - the gearbox tested fine in another, and the problem persisted with another test gearbox. Diagnostics also didn't pick anything up. Please help?

The 1st thing to do is have a test run on the transmission control module to see if any trouble codes are present, next have you ever serviced the transmission, fluid and filter change, should be done at 60,000 miles, on occasion this can cure problems like yours.

Probably sensors! I have already replaced the crankshaft positioning sensor once, nissan replaced it once under recall and now it is bad again! Plus my speed sensor is bad too! Go to any part store and get diagnostic test ran, it will tell what sensors are bad.

You need to check the transmission fluid level, if it is low the tranny will not shift. If, however, the fluid is to the proper level then you will need a new transmission.
Try putting new fluid in and look for a leak in the pan gasket, then all you may need is a transmission service. When the service is done the mechanic will look for pieces of metal in the old fluid, if found this is very bad and you will need a new tranny.
You might consider a new or used car, you can definately find a good deal out there!

I had the same thing! It was a computer issue. It only cost me about $35.00.
