Could be a few things from just a bad hose that gave up, to a stuck thermostat that caused a pressure rupture in the hose.
Running hot would be bad water pump or thermostat.
(also a fan not working)
I would replace the thermostat and hose and test it out. (cheapest route)

If you still have issues, the water pump would be the next item to replace.

What does the emmisions light mean when it is o

This can be caused by many things, as simple as bad gas cap seal or not installed tight enough (common); cracked or broken hose, usually under the hood where things get hot and the rubber hoses get hard and break, to a flooded charcoal canister caused by "topping up" fuel after automatic shut off, or the purge valve failing. The best shops have a smoke machine that you hook up to the system and it will leak smoke from the broken hose. Start by carefully inspecting the gas cap, then check for bad hoses.

My car is jerking. It's a 2003 ford tarus. It also

Open the hood and find the source of the smoking. Check all the engine fluids-the oil level (and appearance-is it clean?) and the coolant level. If low on either, you may have a leak that is causing the smoking. The fluid may be dripping on the hot exhaust. Also check the transmission fluid and add if low. That may be the reason for the jerking. The hissing hose sound is usually a disconnected or broken vacuum line. That would not be causing the smoking, however. Just may make the engine run a bit rough, and the idle speed may be a bit higher than normal.
If the smoking has a burnt electrical smell, better have a shop check it out.

Smell of coolant and smoking

smoke from exhaust could be cracked head or blown head gasket but normally when one of these two things happen it runs crappy if it runs at all smoke from under the hood you may have a pin hole in your radiator or hose or even heater core put some stop leak in it watch for puddle of anti-freeze under the hood and on the ground keep a close eye on your tempature gage and a close eye on you anti-freeze levels and dont add fluid when the motor is hot this will crack your heads good luck.

Running hot if you dont put water or antifreeze in it everytime you drive it, smoke and steam comes from the engine when stopped, one fan wont come on but its not the fuse,etc..

Your first task is to locate where the smoke and steam is issuing from. The possible sources are (from cheapest to most expensive) Heater core hoses or radiator hoses or thermostat housing gasket failed or radiator or head gasket.

If you can find where the steam, or water is coming from, I cant tell you what to do then. The second fan will not come on until really hot, usually only one fan runs.

If your top rad. hose is cool and the engine is smoking hot, it probably is a blown head gasket. What does you temp gauge read ?

Evap sistem problem code 171

Code is for small leak.If you can't see any broken hoses in the evap system you'll need to find a repair shop capable of running a smoke test on it.What a smoke test does it injects smoke into the evap system and you look for where the smoke come's out.the smoke machine sell's for a little over a grand so not every shop has one.Just to give you an idea,we charge an hour labor to run one which is $82.00.

I think a hose is broken by the heating coil heating coil works

Let the mechanic replace the hose T. It may be hard to spot the leak. What I would do is get a pressure tester and apply pressure to the system at the radiator cap (make sure its full of fluid) Then you should be able to easily identify where the leak is coming from. It will shoot out of the Tee most likely if thats where the crack is.
