Several ways to accomplish this. Leave the serpentine fan belt on the water pump pulley. Use a LARGE pair of slip joint pliers to grasp the pulley (the belt will protect the pulley from damage by the pliers) while you remove the bolts. Be sure to install a new belt, as the pliers will have damaged the old one. Alternatively, you can wrap the pulley with an old cloth rag rather than the belt. Another way to lock the pulley is to place a large screwdriver between the heads of two of the bolts, so that the pulley can not rotate. Break loose (but do not remove) the other 2 bolts. Now move the screwdriver to the two loosened bolts and use it to hold the pulley while you loosen the other two bolts. Once loose, you can easily remove the bolts while holding the pulley with your hand. Charlie

I have a 2004 trailblazer and i am having a bad chirping noise from the belt and pulley area.I poured some water on the chirping stopped. is this a sign that the belt is the problem

Replacing the belt is the least expensive thing you can do to fix a belt chirp. I think the belt is around $30-$40 if I recall and takes just 5-10 minutes to swap out. Otherwise, you're looking at a pulley problem, or waterpump starting to go out, or the belt tensioner and so on....

I have changed the fan clutch and waterpump now there is a constant screeching noise when u slowly pour water on the belt it will stop for about 20 secs. What could it be?

Need to change the belt as it could be worn or tighten it more. There is a gauge to checks belt tension. Would be useful as overtighting could cause bearings to were over time

2005 trailblazer

check the idler/tensioner pully's and the alternator pully, there is a common problem with one of these 3 going bad, usually an idler pully the best way to check is to get a mechanics stethescope and touch the end to the bolt on the idler pully's you will notice a very distinct sound difference from a smooth pully and one with bad bearings. gm tech here, seen many of these

Fan Assembly & pully shaft detached from the engine

This is called your waterpump, you need to have the vehicle towed to a repair shop and have it replaced. If you want phone around to get quotes on the job, just ask them how much it would be to replace the "waterpump".

I HEAR A LOUD WHINNING NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD

Yes there is a bearing in the AC clutch assembly, and the bearing can be changed with out swapping out for a whole new AC compressor unit or even taking the unit out.
The other thing to you may want to check is the Serpentine belt tensioner. The tensioner then to break apart and or when the clutch activate put's more pressure on the system and the idler pully bearing could alsy be the problem.
Spray some water on the fan belt whale the engine is running and see if the noise goes away and comes back as the water dry's. If the noise goes away then it's just a worn belt and need to be changed or you may want to do the quick fix and buy Fan belt dressing.
Good luck and hope this helps
