SOURCE: Toyota Caldina cambelt broke. Valve damage?

Sorry to say there is most likely quite expensive damage to the valve train and pistons. A new cam belt can be installed and the motor rotated to see if it is turning freely after which you would do a compression check (lack of compression will indicate bent or broken valves). I've never seen a diesel break a belt and avoid damage, virtually always a catastrophic failure.

SOURCE: my toyota caldina engine rpm rattles and and

Were there any water leaks into the interior? Or did you ever jump start someone else's car? I had the same exact problem resulting from jump starting a friend's car. It spiked the electronic control unit (ECU) computer. I changed the ECU and the problem was fixed.

I need a service manual for a 1994 Toyota Caldina Van/Wagon

You need a Service Manual not an Owner's Manual. It appears to be a foreign named Corolla. You need a Haynes or Chiltern Manual if you want a real book.

I have a 94 4runner and I ran the diagnostic and its a 42 code for the OD/off and engine 42. It doesn't shift into over drive sometimes and it'll blink OD/off every now and then, and the speedometer...

Hi,

Code #42 on the 4Runner denotes a problem with the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) circuit.

It means the ECM did not detect a signal from the VSS, above 2,200rpm....which might explain the speedo issue - Does your speedo play up, only when engine running above 2,200rpm or 2,700rpm?

Areas to check (in this order) are:

- Open (or short) in the VSS circuit
- faulty VSS sensor
- ECM fault within VSS circuit

Cheers,

1997 Toyota Caldina GT-T 3S-GTE

Hi there,
As you say the tacho/speedo come "back up to normal" after the incident, I assume that they either stop working or become erratic while the dash lights are misbehaving.
If so, this sounds like a dash wiring electrical problem.
The O/D OFF light is lit by the switch on the shifter (switch also inputs to the ECU). The ENGINE light is driven also from the ECU but the SLIP light is driven from the ABS/VSC computer, although these two computers do communicate.
Best plan of attack would be interrogate the ECU for error codes or ask a Toyota dealer to do so. At least you'll have some clue to any problems that the ECU's may have picked up.
Contact me about checking for ECU error codes if you want to attempt it yourself. Although the Caldina has an OBDC2 connector, as I understand it it's not 100% compliant, so you'll need a Toyota compatible reader. Fortunately teh codes are also output via the CHECK ENGINE light.
If there's no problems there, I'd be pulling the instrument cluster and checking for wiring problems. I'm not sure where in the world you are but most ex- JDM vehicles could have modified with timers, speed-cut or fuel-cut devices that either have been poorly installed or are playing up and causing electrical problems.
