2009 pontiacG5 radio cuts out and cotrols don't always work

you should bypass the factory cd player. I installed a panasonic cd player in a 1994 gs 300 and it was hell. there are alot of wires that have nothing to do with the radio i believe one or some of those wires may be whats causing your problem try this solution if that doesnt work you may have a serious electrical problem

I assume you didn't install the radio yourself then? Some installers put a inline fuse in. This would be located behind the radio. Some radios even have a fuse built into themselves, also on back side of radio. If those two solutions don't help ya, check the other fuses. Maybe the wiring for the radio was hooked into a different system other then the radio.

it sounds like the Multi information display has failed (MID). It is the long display with all the radio controls on it. If you want to find a known good part they are really easy to swap out. Just remove the radio knob and if you look down in there, there is a place to put a T10 (i think maybe bigger or smaller) torx T10 screwdriver.if you turn it while pulling back slightly on the screwdriver it should come right out. It usually is the component that fails but as always you may want to check your fuses.

I had the same problem, with the blowing fuses and all. I solved this by re-routing the wires to a new power source, and of course it should be equiped with a fuse, try that and if not take the car to a mechanic and see if he can find the wire that is live and bare. Normally this happens when a live wire touches gound somewhere on your car can causes the fuse to blow, hope I helped a bit...
