My car is stuck in 3rd gear power steering fluid is leaking so cant tell if its also transmission fluid leaking or not. But fluid level was fine on trans. Took to shop to get code and it was shift solenoid B malfunction. Should I change fluid and filter and see if that helps. And where exactly are the solenoids located at on this model and how hard are they to get to. Maybe need to get whole new transmission dunno so lost :(
Angela, by what your describing, it sounds like you maybe having two distinct and separate mechanical issues going on. However, the simple process of getting a large piece of cardboard, and placing it under the car to catch the leaking fluid should give you an idea as to the proximity of where the leak is coming from. You can also check the power steering reservoir to see if the fluid is low; check around the hoses for wet spots too. You can also check around the transmission case and bell housing (the area where the transmission meets the engine), to see for any signs of leaks.
The good news is, armed with some information will help you out when going to a repair shop- so at least you're not talked into making unnecessary or unauthorized repairs. So being armed with information will make you feel less intimidated and even less frustrated when dealing with a mechanic.
To stay clear of auto repair scams: 1.) Go to a trusted repair shop; one that is certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (www.ase.com) ; check with family & friends; search the Better Business Bureau's website (www.bbb.org) for accredited businesses; check or call the state Attorney General's office (www.naag.org) or the Department of Consumer Protection in your area to see if the prospective mechanic/garage has any current or past complaints filed against them. Or call your insurance company to see if they have a list of reputable repair stations; or call the repairs division of your state's motor vehicle department (who license repair stations)- for a list of reputable repair stations.
2.) Whatever repair work that needs to be done (minor or major) ALWAYS make sure the repair order clearly specifies: a.) repairs to be done b.) ALL fees, including parts, labor, storage, loaner-car, etc. c.) Whether new, reconditioned/rebuilt, or used parts will be used. d.) Acceptable payment methods. e.) Completion date. f.) Diagnostic or reassembly charges if you decide to go for a second opinion. g.) The final repair bill should include: (i) all the work that was completed. (ii) and the parts used. (iii.) It should spell out any guaranteed items- including any exclusions!
3.) Scams or things to look out for or avoid: a.) A verbal estimate- be careful of the bait & switch- a low estimate, but then charged a higher price b.) being lured into a shop with low-cost specials- like an oil change, transmission & brake inspections, then pads the work order with other repairs you don't want or need. c.) Being charged for services that are covered under warranty. d.) Or when they don't want to return replaced parts to you- which could mean the work was not actually done or used inferior parts. e.) High pressure sales tactics.
If you only have to replace the solenoid on the transmission, you do not have to replace the entire transmission. (Do you need to rebuild or tear down your house when a wall switch has to be replaced?) Transmission replacement is very costly...several thousands of dollars...if anything, maybe a transmission flush and a filter replacement with diagnostic computer adjustments will keep the car running for many more miles.
If any of the power steering components need replacing, and its within your budget, make sure you do it sooner than later. Or else the bill could get larger because other components failed. For example, a $5.00 clamp that needs to be replaced around a hose where the leak is, but by not addressing that issue, you let it go and now you have to install a new pump or booster assist because they burned out due to a lack of power steering fluid.
Remember, just because you don't completely understand what goes on underneath the hood, doesn't mean you can't protect yourself from auto repair scams. Be prepared, go to the shop with the list I articulated in step 2; explain to the shop owner, this is what I want and expect- if you want my business. If they are unwilling to comply, avoid them and go some place else.
Best regards ~
How many miles on the car. When was the transmission fluid and filter last changed?
SOURCE: Error code P0755, Shift Solenoid B Malfunction
go with the new solenoid, in order to change it the trans pan has to come off so install a new filter at that time.
SOURCE: Replaced cv axles, trans filter and fluid, now the
Make sure if you remove any sensor cables. Just go back and verify every thing you done, may be you left some thing. let me know

My maxima uses only Matic K fluid. & I think another dealer put the wrong one druing service but no way to prove it. But it's 100% your transmission. I've been complaing since i got my maxima in 05 brand new. within 5000 miles I was complaing its transmission. Now today I have 52000miles now they admit something is wrong Luckly i was under warranty. I've been informed by former mechanics if once dealer does not find anything the 1st time they call all the local dealers & give eachother a heads up no to waste time on that specific car.I had to push the service advisor to go for a test drive to prove my car was having problem.
Good luck man

GOOD LUCK....

All I can say is to take it to a trans shop or the dealer, you will not
be able to diag and fix this problem yourself it is a detailed pinpoint
test that involves specific tools. Replacing the solenoid assembly it turned out to be a TCM (Transmission
Control Module)... may not be the cure for your demon but its a
possibility.
It could be a not completely seated connector, bad solenoid or a bad
molded lead frame (shift solenoid complete assembly) or a new unit.
