The tach shouldn't move unyil engine starts. Sounds like a possible fuel pump issue

SOURCE: Engine dies after 20 minutes or so and then will not start again for 10 to 15 min.

Sounds like it could be an ignition module (controls the coil), often when they begin to fail they are fine when cold but die when they get hot. If you do replace it make sure you disconnect the battery first, and that the mounting surface is cleaned first, and that you then put the supplied heatsink paste thinly across the mounting surface before installation.

SOURCE: car died while driving. my husband is a truck

It needs both inputs from the camshaft and the crankshaft to know where the timing is to start. It should be tested before you go and throw parts at it.

Have you checked the wiring that goes to both the Crank and Cam sensors? Most of the time the wires are close to a heat source (ie: exhaust manifold) and the plastic covering starts to melt causing the cooper on wires to make contact and thus making engine stop, you will have to take off the protective covering as well as tape around the wires and inspect each and every one. Had same problem with Dodge caravan, it turns out the Crank Sensor plug wires were melted together. Good Luck.

1999 Dodge 1 ton won't start sometimes. There's no set pattern to it. Sometimes it'll crank right up, but other times ill have to try it everyday for a week before it'll start.

when it doesnt start does it crank? if it cranks all day and doesnt start spray some starting fluid in the throttle body and see if it starts and then if it dies then you are not getting enough fuel pressure but if it doesnt start then your iginiton system is acting up or your crankshaft sensor could be bad

Why would turning the steering wheel while cranking engine gets my car to start?

The ignition switch in the column most likely has a break in it. So when you move the steering wheel, it moves the wire so it completes the connection when you turn the key. Have the ignition switch replaced.
