Nissan 200SX stalls out after about running 20 seconds

Hoping somebody here can help me out. I have a 69 200sx with 230,000 miles on it. It is always run great. However, a few weeks ago, it started stuttering ( all speeds). With a day or two, it started stalling. I fire it up, and it stalls after about 30 seconds. I changed the gas, changed the distributor and upper timing tensioner. It idles better but still stalls. After I changed the distributor, it started showing the code P1320. Do you have any suggestions, what I should check and in what order? I would really appreciate it. Dave

then i would replace whats called the hall effect sensor its that black plastic plate you see when you take dist cap off. just pull rotor and lift up the sensor.dist cap is what holds it on.also under the sensor will be a stamped sheet metal piece that looks like the top of a castle wall. make sure its not loose on the shaft.if it is then new dist will be needed

I had a problem with starts on my 98 sc2, did it twice only, but it would start up, shake a bit then shut down like it wasn't getting fuel, or a wrong mixture. Replaced the coolant temperature sensor and starts / idles like new now... goodluck

USA car, I only do USA cars, never exports ever. (they are no the same)
23 years old and cars that old things fail, lots of things
2.4L or 3.3V6 engine? it is an engine question and not told. vin code shows it.

1-engine power dead?
2-or all DC electric power, lamps and piles of electics on the car go dead.????

it be silly to post them all and I sure can post them all and more.
we do tests, up to 20 tests and tools lots top find true cases.
I bet you have no tools at all and just want the blind guy to guess for you?
the car needs service, you know that and avoid it?


no engine told , or VIN#. told that has the engine code part of VIN.

key on every time time the cluster works normally??????
can it it restart at every time just after the stall.?

USA OBD2 scan port DLC, and a scan tool.
scan the PCM after any stall tells you why it did (or very close)

near stalling did the engine misfire, grossly , heard and felt?
we can't hear the engine, said the blind.
at stall the starter motor works and sounds fast and normal right?

fuel not bad (old)
fuel tank not 1/16 full, (kissing E)
no news spark plugs for 23 years
this car 2000 still has the old funky distributors(that I love) but others not.
new cap , new rotor, new HV wire sets and 4 or 6 spark plugs, no engine told
that is spark tuneup, no distributor (and friends) runs for 23 years, not serviced.
unless a hanger-queen, (means drove only to church 1 day per month)
no miles on car, gee 23 years is 230,000 miles easy. 10k/yr
all filters are bad. air and fuel.
bad FPR, no.
bad pump
scans show sensor errors oops
scans show more errors, not seen ,not scanned.

or is just battery cables loose /rusty
or alternator is dead, and not noticed.
you said all power lost but left off (engine or DC power words)

at engines stall did head lamps dim greatly, hummmmmmmm

97 Nissan 200sx 2.0l....car wont stay running when put in gear. When idling sometimes when engine is reved up it stalls, other times while idling I can rev it up and its smooth but once I put it in gear it...

You'll need to change the distributor, as the distributor shaft oil seal has gone bad. Without sufficient spark, you'll have no power. Don't forget a new cap/rotor.

97 nissan 200sx 2.0, starts but stalls when I shift to forward. Also when in park and reeve the engine up it misses badly. Took distributor cap off and there was oil inside. Other times I can start it...

There should be no oil in the distributor. Replace it. Oil will cause the spark to go anywhere. Most likely to a ground. The distributor base.

Had emissions test on '95 nissan 200sx. No check

hi try changing the spark plugs and air filter, these help immensely with the burning of fuel, also ( i don't know what you have in the US ) but use some redX to clean your injectors, this will also help....hope this helps

BACK IN 1984 NISSAN HAD THE ELECTRONIC IGNITION WITH AIR GAP ADJUSTMENT.YOU ADJUST AIR GAP IN THE DISTRIBUTOR BY LOOSENING THE STATOR MOUNTING SCREWS .MOVE THE STATOR UNTIL PROPER GAP IS ACHIEVED.THIS COULD BE NO SPARK CONDITIONS.

souns like a vaccum leak take a can of carb cleaner and spray down intake while engine is running if engine races up you have found your vaccun leak then try to tighen intake or fix vaccum hoses

1987 Nissan 200SX cranks but hard to start

Thats a classic sign of having your engine run too rich. That puffy layer of ash is carbon which means your engine is not burning gas properly or completely which means is misfiring thats why the car is shaking. Try having your oxygen sensors checked and make sure you are using good fuel.

The the airflow meter can shut off the car completely, it can also stop the car from reving over 2000rpm "limp mode" to save the engine from getting un-measured amounts of fuel.
