My hubby bought a 1992 Toyota P/U truck 4 cyl, standard trans, ext cab, and the speedometer didn't work, was told it was a sensor, he changed the sensor, no luck, question, what shoyuld he do next? Is there a cable to check or a fuse that is NOT located in the dash fuse thingy?? Please help before he gets a ticket...THANKS in advance!!

The cable needs to be lubricated. You will need to remove one end, and spray a lubricant like WD-40 or dryslide in the housing of the cable. If this doesn't solve the problem, it's too far gone, the cable will need to be replaced.

the most likely thing is one of the gears on the trans tail shaft is worn and the cable is not being turned, pull the speedo driven (on transmission) gear out and see if it is ok, most likely the teeth are worn off.

It sounds like the cluster is gone bad if everything is not working. Usually, if just the speedometer isn't working then it's the speed sensor on the transmission that has gone bad. But I think you have a cluster that has just died. Check on EBAY for a used cluster and ask them to roll the mileage to what is on your vehicle now.

neoprene gear in transmission were the speedometer cable goes into transmission should not have a dished appearance if you pulll it out of transmission look at it from the side it should appear flat from the start of the gear to end of gear no dish down in center

There is a cable that runs from the back of the transmission to back of dash.Undo cable at trans end.Spin the inner wire with cordless drill, speedo should move,if not replace speedo cable. Some cables u can pull inside wire from trans end,so don't have to mess with dash
