It could idled to low and not allowing the engine to maintain proper oil pressure at idle. It could be a bad filter or a bad sensor. Any of the above is dangerous as just a few seconds without proper oil pressure can damage it. I would get it to Auto Zone or somewhere and have it hooked to a computer immediately. AutoZone will check the codes for free, it only takes a few minutes to download and look up the codes They can tell you if the gas cap has been left in an insecure position. They are very good at diagnosing problems of all types.. .
Ok. Thanks. Will do that computer diagnostics thing. It started when I brought it to a service station last Dec. I was told it might be the faulty sensor. But I have to make sure and have it diagnosed. The rattling sound freaks me out.
If that rattling sound is what I think it is, dried up valve lifters you need to go straight and have it diagnosed. Don't let it idle down when you stop keep it idled up. If it is a sensor the valve lifters would not rattle because they would be getting plenty of oil. The engine should idle at around 900 RPM MAX. Most vehicles send five volts to the idle sensor and if that voltage gets low then it will let it idle down to much.
Ok. Will have it diagnosed. Thank you so much for your help.
If oil light was on and you have a rattle comming out of engine, you may have a defective oil pump which now gave you a valve problems. Have the oil pressure checked out and the whereabouts of rattle noise identified. This way you can determine whether you want to spend the money to repair the pump and possible valve job if what I suspect are your culprits. Good luck.

Hi I an Vortash there are a few things that can cause this ... Air at the inlet manifold caused by a faulty gasket ?.... Air leak in the Brake servo causing loss of Inlet vacum ( this would be noticeable with the fact that brakes would be a little spongy but not always and sometimes the engine revs increase when you put the brakes on when staionary ) Faulty throttle cable ... faulty throttle sensor .. best way to find out is to have the car checked out on a Krypton tune machine ( or equvalent ) to determine the fault otherwise you could spend out on un nesscasary parts .. at least the machine would pinpoint it for you .. It is always adviseable if you do your own repairs to get hold of a Haynes manual for your vehicle it will tell you all the best ways of treating most of your cars problems cheaply and efficiently hope this helps Regards Vortash

you need to determine the exact amount of oil required in the engine, as well as oil type.
the engine oil type needed for your vehicle should be a high quality SAE type 5W/30.
Add a Commenti would also be checking for a possible headgasket issue by looking in the coolant tank for signs of oil or under the oil filler cap for any signs of creamy coloured (or mayonnaise like) sludge building up. if either of these are visible then you will need to get it check out asap.
