97 Olds Aurora AC blowing warm air a day after recharging system

I have a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora that I recently recharged the AC on. After I filled the system yesterday with freon it started finally blowing out cold, but today its blowing warm again. The compressor works fine. Any answers?

Several- The system should hold freon for years without leaking. There are pressure switches and they cut off the compressor with an undercharge and an overcharge. You need guages to measure the charge. There are testers the A/C shops have called "sniffers" which can detect a leak. If you have no leak then you need a technician to add or remove freon to get the concentration right. Or you need guages.

Two probabile issues:

  1. There's a leak in your AC system; get a special can of R-134A with a dye in it to show leaks in the system and recharge
  2. The system was substantially low in refrigerant and the can you added was just enough to get the compressor to kick on but not enough to fully pressurize your system.
Best of luck with your problem and thanks for using Fixya.

Where are the recharge ports for ac on a 1997 Oldsmobile cutless subprime

'97 Cutlass Supreme SL 3.1 AC charging port is under the back side of the air cleaner housing on the drivers side and the lowest port is the fill port.

The ac blows warm i tried recharging and it took a whole 12oz can but still blows warm some1 checked it n said my a pump was not going on and another person told me that if it is not fully recharged that...

Purchase 1 more can and allow it enough time to fully get into the system. You can have the car running while this is happening so it warms the can allowing it to charge faster. Let me know.

Where is the low pressure valve for the recharging the air conditioner on a 97 Olds Bravada?

it is located between the compressor and the accumulator. the quick disconnect valve is smaller than the high pressure valve so you can't make a mistake using the single recharging hose.

The ac blows just not cold the works only will freeon work

Try getting a recharge kit. They sell them at Auto Zone and Advanced Auto. My bet is that your freon is low.

It should run you about $30. The folks at the store can help you hooking it all up. You can do the job right there in the parking lot.

Good Luck

My AC in my 95 aurora blows out hot air. one side of the ac lines stays cold and the outher side stays hot

Try either having it recharged by a pro or I believe you can go to auto zone and by the ac recharge in a can. I f that doesn't work it could be the trinary switch.

97 aurora AC not working

GM products have a safety feature which shuts down compressors is they run too low on refrigerant. Honestly surprised you were able to fill the system with refrigerant since the compressor would have shut off. The best way to reset the compressor is to disconnect the negative battery cable for 15 min. After reconnecting, the compressor should function again assuming there's enough R-134A in it. If there's not, turn the AC to MAX and add the refrigerant. At this point, the system should actually **** the can dry. Hope this helps with your AC problem. All the best!

2001 Aurora - blows only 'warm' air

Your problem is either a clogged heater core, or the air temp control blend door actuator, in order to check for a clogged core feel the heater core hoses in the eng compartment, they should both be hot, one a little hotter than the other, if they are the core is ok and the blend door actuator needs to be replaced.
