Take it to your local Auto Zone. They will scan your vehicles computer, and tell you what it means all for free. You can go from there. Hope this helps. Dano
The engine light came on for a reason. You did not turn it on by pushing on the gas pedal.
It is a MIL -Malfuntion Indicator Lamp, with means you have an engine related failure of some sort
Now you have to hook up a code reader or scanner to the diagnostic connector under the dash,to see if you have codes stored, and only then can you proceed to find the cause of your issues. The codes you get will not always be the problem, only the symptom in some cases.
Your best bet is to let a repair shop go from here, and help you out.
Stay there and learn all you can from the mechanic
could be about 100 different things, call around to auto parts stores and often time they will hook it up to a computer for free to narrow things down for you
Most Auto Part stores like napa or kragen will read the malfunction code for you for free. Once you get that done post the code so we can give you a better understanding on your concern. Oh if your light is flashing please don't drive it that means you are doing immediate damage.
U can still drive the car, the light means that a malfuntion has occured in the engine/emission system electronic controls, have the system tested for the trouble code that was stored with the light.
The Malfuntion Indicator Lamp (MIL) is being lit up by the vehicle's computer to indicate there is a problem with one of the vehicle's systems.Have the vehicle scanned, write down the code number and definition, and ask whoever scans it what's involved in repairing the malfunction, and what system it is in.Or come back in here with the code number and definition, and we can help you.
