Jaguar S-type (2000 auto) gearbox fault when on motorway

I have 2000 Jaguar S-type (3 litre auto), it is a lovely car, mostly I drive in a city and I have no problems at all. But when it comes to driving long distances with speed 50-100mph after about 50-100 miles gearbox fault comes up on a dashboard. It doesnt come up when I'm on the same speed, but when I'm braking and accelerating (changing gears), and since the light came up the car is not changing gears smoothly. It never happened to me in the city, only when I'm on motorway. My Jaguar also had bursted radiator hose. Does it have anything to do with dampness? Or is it wind pressure when on higher speeds? Please help! Car diagnostics shows no problems. Thank You!

It sounds like the tranny is over heating, you might want to have the tranny check by a pro. Way to complex to work on with out experience and training.

Engine management system has recently started to show orange engine sign followed by gearbox fault intermittedly .car seems to be wavering very slightly in stearing.2001S type v6 auto petrol ,was told...

This could be caused by many things - but don't panic - as the car is driving okay it is probably a spark plug coil as at your mileage you are due a change. The gearbox fault sign can be caused by the engine misfiring and confusing the gearbox controls - happened to me - took lots of investigations to prove it. Best to get your car on a diagnostics rig and see what faults are recorded. good luck - hope this helps.

1997 Jaguar XK8 "Gearbox fault" (Auto) doesn't want to go

I'm not familiar with the jag but my ford is similar( no dipstick). I'm led to believe these are designed to prevent overfilling, which can blow out the seals. I undo the top pipe which goes to my radiator to cool the trany fluid, then get a 1/2 metre length of plastic tube to fit between the disconnected pipe and a 1 litre bottle of fluid. I then squeeze the fluid in that way....no more than a litre at a time, then try driving it again..Hope this helps.

Jaguar s-type gearbox fault when on motorway

Check under the driver side fuse box which below left of the steering wheel if there is any dampness then it s screwing the ecu, this could be due to a seal leak in the window or holes near the axle.ALso the transmission needs fluid to be change as most jag trans fluid need replacing before 75k, clearing the codes will clear the engine light which also improve the cars shifting.
