What are the causes of engine failsafe p in Bmw x5 2006 model

The reason is the engine speed and transmission speed sensors don't agree. It could be caused by a bad transmission speed sensor, bad transmission fluid, a failed solenoid in the valve body ( in the transmission pan), a worn out valve body, a bad transmission, improper tires(that don't match each other), a faulty MAP sensor (air flow sensor on the air intake), faulty engine speed sensor and possibly a few other things.

Get the codes with a reader, and it might direct you in the right direction. But take the reading with a grain of salt, because it rarely tells you the exact problem. My fail safe came on and the code was TCC solenoid, but after replacing that, I had to install a rebuilt valve body to solve the problem.

Just had my transmission rebuilt on 02 axiom...I would like to know if that transmission requires a new valve body.

Often a valve body is not part of a rebuild, But what happens is metal particles sometimes get into the valve body and damage it by scoring. Then it would need to be replaced.

How to reinstall shift shaft into the transaxel

Well it is going to be some work. From what you described you have a 3 speed transmission. You will need to remove the bottom pan and unbolt the valve body. The shifter shaft has come out of the detent on the valve body and the check ball for the detent has come out. Once you remove the valve body you can put it back together. If you need more help let me know. I have taken a few valve bodies off the 31TH/A413 transmission and i rebuilt a few too.

Ford is very common for tranny problems. Most likely your tranny will have to be rebuilt. As a mechanic myself, I would suggest taking to tranny specialist to see if i needs to be rebuilt, or if the electrical unit is faulty. It will have to be tested with voltmeter/ohmmeter/multi-tester

The transmission changes hard going from 1st to 2nd.

The computer is puting trans in safe mode. Converter valve bore is worn out in valve body, an oversize valve is avalible, find a shop that can do the repair.

Transmission shifting problem

never did figure out the cable I was questioning about but it seems to have been a stuck valve in one of the other parts of the valve body used a can of Mr Muscle and ran it 3 or 4 times and it straightened it out

It is a very common issue If you have a 4L60E, you may have a problem with the valve body. As the valves bores get worn hydraulic pressure is compromised, there are fixes out there for this transmission, check out www.sonnax.com they have many parts to help resolve the transmission of these problems. Also you should check or replace your separator plate as sometimes the check balls that regulate the hydraulics of the transmission become stuck onto the plate. I've done quite a few of this model transmission and its almost always the valve body problem. HOWEVER FIRST CHECK YOUR FLUID CONDITION, if the fluid is good and there isn't a large amount of debris in the pan you should try to either get a new valve body or have your rebuilt with the parts from sonnax that eliminate these hard shift problems.
