Cranks but wont start

Cranks but won't start. It seems to happen only when the outdoore temperature is warm to hot, before the problem got worse I use to get it to start by letting it cool down for a couple hours, now I have to let it sit overnight just to start it long enough to move it out of the way.

Vapor lock is your issue the fuel is boiling on the fuel rail causing your hard start condition which locks up pressure and blam no start

Testimonial: "If it is vapor lock how do I cure the problem?"

Ok here we go hope u got a minute because this is how to fix your vapor lock on your ford van probably wondering how in the heck does this happen there are many factors to consider has your cooling system ever been flushed? .if you have not serviced the cooling system were going to start there is the thermostat the correct one for your van ?if the cooling system has not been maintained the temps under the hood are very hot and a good flush could drastically lower those temps also I'd check or test the PCM to see if the injectors are being commanded to open/close on a hot restart also check and make sure your fuel pump is working properly an easy way is to have someone turn the key forwards not totally on but u know what I'm saying so take the gas cap and listen for the pump to run for two seconds then stop to confirm the pump and relay are working properly also clean the ac condenser and power wash all the debris out of both that r restricting air movement otherwise I guess u could carry a jug of cool water about 5gal worth and when it won't start dump the water on the intake plenum to cool it and blam it will start this is very common u will not b the first or the last with vapor lock it all comes down to maintenance if you don't take care of your vehicle it won't take u were u want to go I hope I've explained this well enough for u remember the only way to learn is ask questions glad to help u regards Chris ....

Hi my name is Tom and I am here to help.

I will need more info to zone in on your problem. Some questions I need answers to. Has a tune up been done on your van? Is the timing off? Has the carburetor or injectors had a cleaning?

When an engine does not run well in hot weather or after running a while, it is usually a sign of "vapor lock" or too lean a mixture of gas to air. There is not enough gas for it to run properly.

I can be more specific, if I know more about the state of the plugs, timing, etc. Please let me know, If you want a more specific opinion.

SOURCE: 2005 ford ranger fuel pump relay gets hot and engine dies

Like Laurie Mack said. It is the inertia switch below the glove box. Here is some funny information. DON'T change the fuel pump first. Interesting fact: I bought the new inertia switch from Ford and the install instructions that came with it said to install the switch in the protected area to the right where the fuses are. It is like Ford knows it was a dumb place to put the inertia switch, but they won't let you know until after you buy a new one. I have read at least 20 other people on here that had the same problem I just had.

Avalon wont start batt seems fine just clicking

seems, means nuttn. (no jumper cables,?????)
only a volt meter works, seems is zero .
a rested charged battery and (warm temps) is 12.6vdc.
you crank it, (not in Klondike?) and battery holds above 11v. cranking
does it? if not the battery is bad, or not charged.
jumper cables to other car fix it?
barrowed battery from wifes good car fix it?
no,
no.?
ok are battery cables cleaned, the lugs.
yes.
you hot wire the starter (keys in pocket)
starter works (engine dont start for safety here)
it fails to crank, starter is bad.
it cranks, that means the key line is dead.

if key line fails, did you wiggle the shifter cranking, , do so.
if that starts car the PRNDL switch is bad. on trans side.

My 1997 nissan sentra dies at idle and then cranks but wont start unless let sit about 10 minutes only with engine warm worse on a hot day,

I would check the ignition module then maybe the coil. Check with autozone or kragen they should test it for free.

Car won't start without a jump but battery okay

wont crank or wont start.??
no car starts , if it cant crank. (unless push starter (M/T magic)
that is not a trans sensor its the PRN switch.
ill answer for, wont CRANK !
it wont crank even with a good battery (charged) or jump started.
1: bad start
2: bad wires to same.
so hot wire the starter small wire, the key start line is tiny.
cranks. , starter good, no crank starter bad or cables bad.
if it cranks hot wired, then the key line is dead.
easy, huh?

Cranks too long before it starts

Since you have a worse situation whilst hot /warm engine difficult to start, why do not check the engine valves if are too tight and cause low compression. do check compression when engine hot.Check also if your fuel pump is working okay when hot.

My BMW 520i starts up when cold but when it's warmed up and I turn engine off it won't start it's a 1997 straight six tiptronic whats causing this?

If the engine cranks but fails to fire, the car may be flooding due to a failed temperature sensor. There are several, but the most likely problem would be the water temperature sensor.
If the engine fails to crank when hot, the starter motor is failing and will need to be replaced.

I have a 97 corolla, when I first start it in the morning it starts fairly easy, but when it warms up and im running errands around town, it cranks longer before it wants to restart, and its getting worse,...

The engine coolant temperature sensor could be stuck in the cold mode. This would activate the cold start injector even with the engine warm--and flood the engine with too much fuel, making for long crank times. The engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT) is usually located close to the thermostat housing. It has two wires coming from it. The coolant temperature sender for the dash gauge is not the same. It only has one wire and grounds through the engine block. It is easy to get them confused.
