The car gets hot when I go up and down hill. When I replaced the old thermostat it had one piece cut off it leaving to prongs so the thermostat was not working. I checked the paper work and sure enough the radiator was replaced in 2003. A compression test was done on the engine and it was fine. New hoses. No obvious leaks. What could possibly be the problem
IF you have a motor driven fan it will be connected by a viscous fan hub . replace the viscous fan hub as it is not working and pulling air through the radiator when you need it most. I imagine that the temperature will be higher than normal while sitting at lights . If it is an electronic fan the run fault codes and look for fan relays --fuses-- and temperature coolant sensor, problems.

possible head gasket do a preasure test on the coolant system to see if it loses any coolant or presure drops and check for leaks hope this helps

You might try another mechanic if this one can't get it fixed. Shaking is usually caused by one or more cylinders mis-firing for whatever reason--usually faulty ignition or fuel injection. Has the engine had recent tune-up? Bad spark plugs/plug wiring are frequent villains. Not sure what an 'OS2' code is. Hope this helps!

I don't know how many miles/Ks you have on your engine but two cars I have owned and used a molybdenum disulphide oil additive I've put in all my cars for the last five decades, got so 'slippery' inside that they would cool off at an idle or rolling down a grade for a few minutes; friction had fallen to the point that the engine no longer had enough to raise the coolant temperature into the normal range.
Running totally without a thermostat is not healthy for performance or fuel economy but I don't consider your situation a problem.

Nornally the hose will warm up but not hot with a circulating system. the therostae could be installed upside down or be bad. You should install a therostate with a asprin holding it open to circulate the coolant till the cooling system is full and the asprim will disolve as it soaks in the coolant. the air will ciculatre to the top and out and the systrem will be full. the stat will work corectly after the asprim is gone. with air around the stast it might not open and therefore overheat.
