I have an audi a4 2001 model 1.8L non turbo. It recently had a problem in idling(it was going up & down between 200 & 1000 revs whilst it was in park). i had it checked by the mechanic & he checked & cleaned the throttle body & airflow sensor (air filter & plugs were changed). after that the idling problem was solved the vehilce now has a high consumption on fuel (10L for 43km). what might be the problem?

Feb 1, 2012 - My Car 58 S3, as of last night decided to start revving whilst on idle, I found a clip ... I can do or is it going to be a trip to audi for them to pull my pants down! ... Lots of members all over the UK have VCDS, have a look at the VCDS .....and as the engine warms up it'll auto-rev to 1000rpm every time i sit at idle.

these vehicles are known for ignition coil failure. typical symptoms include: Misfire, power loss, vibrating engine, poor fuel consumption. If the vehicle's engine vibrates, it be misfiring. Is your chk engine light on???
Engine also smokes when car driving if turbocharger still faulty. Did you change the engine timing belt (the timing belt kit) meantime? What about engine oil consumption? When engine glow plugs (one or more) burnt then engine exhausts white smoke at idling. Also white smoke at engine idling when water is still present in diesel fuel.
The oil overfill might well be the cause of the smoke. It will be nothing to do with the overboost. That is quite a common fault and at the main dealers, Audi for me, we usually replace the turbo for that. You need to check the N75 and all the vacuum pipes etc, but when they go you dont get enough boost, when you get to much 99% of the time its the Turbo.
We arent aloud to take turbo's aparts, But In the real word I would suggest you look into having the turbo rebuilt. It is a variable vain turbo and the vains and or the actuator that control them get stuck, which causes this problem. I assume you recently purchased the vehicle, because its very common when its intermittent, for people to see that fault code, know a turbo is £1000 and sell the car.
You can drive around the problem usually, by keeping the revs up. Pulling full throttle from low rpm will bring it on more, thats how we test them.
