The airbag light comes on and stays on for about 20 seconds while driving. Does this intermittantly. Dodge grand carvan sport 2001 Whats it trying to tell me?

disconnect the battery and reset the codes

Light will come on when the system senses it cannot activate the
airbag. Best bet is to get a diagnostic.

I ordered the clockspring on ebay it was $30 buy it now, brand new. This was after the airbag light being on solid for about a week. Then one day it began to come and go intermittently. Then it went off and stayed off about a week.. The clockspring I ordered arrived and I set it aside to see whether the light would come back on. Well, today it did and it was on solid for a 100 miles of driving. I got home and disconnected the battery for about 5 minutes and reconnected. Light stayed on. So I pulled the steering wheel and changed the clockspring and the light has gone off and stayed off so far. I will post back in a few weeks if it stays OFF so others may find this helpful for future reference.

Normally, white smoke is coolant burning.
Can you see any coolant leaks in the engine compartment ?

Looks like a bad clock spring.Don't try to make this repair unless you know what you're doing!! If the airbag blows during the process,let's just say it'll ruin your day & probably the next week. I'm a chrysler master tech,so heed my warning please. I'd tell ya how to do it but I'll get sued if you get hurt.

this is telling u that a fault has been detected in the airbag circuit by the airbag diagnostic monitor module (system is disabled when light is on), the most common cause is the rotating ribbon contact called the clock-spring contact has a break in it's circuit to the airbag on the steering wheel. To replace this you must disarm the airbag system and remove the steering wheel. Follow factory protocol for disarming airbag or serious injury can result from unwanted deployment of the airbag

If the seat belt light comes on intermittently with the belt buckled, it may have a bad switch in the buckle or a loose connection @ the switch. This may also set a diagnostic trouble code in the srs control module & keep the srs airbag light on.

Makes sense if that is what code was stored in the Occupant Restraint Module. There are sensors in the seatbelts now.

ok, if the airbag light is on, there is a fault with the unit, your concerns are valid, if it has a faulty sensor the airbag MAY fire for no reason or not fire when you actually need it. if it has a recall on it, take it to the dealer so they can rectify the fault.

Recalls are a warranty repair from the manufacturer if they try to charge you scream the joint down
