A/c compressor won't engage turn on
Most likely the ac compressor will not engage because it needs a freon charge. The simple way to tell if that is why without having special equipment is to find the pressure switch located on the low pressure line and jump the switch with a peice of wire. if the clutch engages when you jump the switch then you need to charge the ac with 134 a freon

sounds like you have an issue with a leak. I would recommend having a evac and recharge with a leak test. the reason it was getting worse was you were slowly losing r134a refrigerant and the low pressure cutout switch cut the compressor off and now there isn't even enough for it to run safely. so the bcm is stopping it until there is enough pressure.
