SOURCE: Battery and Alternator Good. Alternator not working. HELP!!!

djn, I believe you have some accessory that is on when the key is in the off position.
Check to make certain glove box light is not on when the glove box door is closed and the trunk light is not on.
If you have an aftermarket radio or any added accessories make sure they are not wired direct to battery voltage.
If all that checks out, disconnect the battery negative and connect a test light between the battery and battery cable. If the light is on you have a drain in the electrical system. Leave the light connected and begin removing 1 fuse at a time until the light goes out, that will tell you what component or circuit is draining the battery.
Last resort, you may have an alternator drawing the battery down.
Good luck and let me know.
Regards,

SOURCE: battery good alternator good starter good but

The proper way to troubleshoot a current drain is to disconnect one of your battery cables, and put an amp meter between the battery and the disconnected cable. Measure how much current is there, and then you can systematically pull fuses out of your fuse panel to see what circuit is drawing power. Some current is expected, such as the keep alive circuit for your radio, and a dome light if you have a door open.
You should be able to narrow down your search area, by your symptoms. If you have not had your alternator tested, do so, as sometimes they appear to be working, but have a current draw thru the voltage regulator.

SOURCE: i have a 93 chevy 1500. Good battery, good

You should check the electrical system at this point Get the rubber gloves out pull the wire off the distributor cap for the coil hold the wire close to the hole that it was pluged into have someone try to start the vehicle you should get a spark if you do then take out one of the spark plugs plug the wire back on the plug and touch it to the engine block and have to other person try to start the engine again you should see a spark again If you get no spark at the coil test it cuuld be a bad coil or the electronic ignition module witch is the most likly cause of your problem But if its sparks at the coil and not at the plug then eletronic ignition is likely good and the high votlage side of the coil is the problem hope this helps

Avoid a dead battery

If your battery is discharging while the van is parked up, there's 3 general causes:
  • The battery itself is failing and cannot hold a charge. replacement is the only option.
  • There is a fault within the alternator - either the alternator is not charging or it is allowing the battery to drain because the diodes (the rectifier in the alternator) have failed.
  • There's a parasitic drain of power somewhere. Something is remaining 'live' when the van is parked up - and draining the battery.
Many places will do a free battery check.

Battery wont stay charged

If the alternator is good and the battery is new, then something is draining the battery while it's parked. In the old days people left their headlights, radio or something on and this drained the battery. Now a days this is not as big a problem with 5 minute timers that turn off lights if you forget. I would take it back to whomever did the alternator work for an answer. How old is the battery? You can take it to see if it can't hold a charge any longer. In my experience, most batteries don't seem to hold a charge after about two years. Did anyone do some custom work in your car that requires electricity? It could be this extra stuff is draining the battery.

2002 Kia Rio the battery keeps dying while the car is running and the lights keep going down in the windshield wipers running real slow its got a six month old alternator the lights and turn signals go...

Charge the battery start the engine and confirm that the voltage at the battery is about 14 volts with engine running . If not it is likely the alternator is bad or the electrical connections from the alternator to the battery are defective.

A significant drain from the battery can be determined by observing the battery voltage after stopping the engine.

If it is under 12 and continues to drop trouble shoot for battery drain. If you suspect the radio pull the fuse and observe.

Battery keeps draining already put in a brand new alletantor and brattery still draining and battery lights comes on and truck won't start

You would have checked the charging system before replacing the alternator, so I will assume the charging system is good.
If the battery is being discharged overnight or over a few days, you would need to disconnect it and check every circuit on the truck to find the drain.

System wont keep battery charged..alternator was checked and is ok

System working well and charging the battery, then that means most likely the battery has one or more bad cells and can't HOLD a charge. It may seem fine but it's not what it seems. Good Luck

Car wont run.

Does it crank well and all that but with no spark or is the battery just dead? If the battery is dead, it either won't charge while alternator is spinning or the alternator doesn't charge well enough to keep the battery charged well. If it jumps and runs indefinitely, battery is done. If it jumps and dies, alternator is done. If battery and alternator are fine, and you have no spark, you may need a new coil, new spark plug wires if they are worn out and too resistant, pick up coil inside of distributor, or you may have some other ignition system issue.

Most times when an alternator fails, it starts charging less and less till the car won't keep running or it won't start the next time. If the alternator hasn't failed, the battery needs replacing. If your battery is 5 or more years old this is a very good possibility. If your alternator failed and you have killed your battery many times before replace them both. Each time you drain a battery to dead you lose about 10% of its current capacity.

If the battery is fine and engine will not turn, starter may need replacing. Hope I helped.

Check that connections are clean and check battery voltage with a meter...If battery has less than 12v in it, likely you have a bad alternator.

Replaced the alternator 3 times still wont charge. new starter and battery. Voltage is still low. I was told to ground the field hole on the alternator it worked for a day and now it is back to not...

Either the voltage regulator is shot, or you have a short somewhere else that is draining the battery. How are your battery cables? Is the ground wire clean and securely attached? How is the altenator belt? Is it tight?
