engine damaged --usually a blown head gasket but it just pouring in coolant and engine not running may have cracked cylinder or block due to overheating
Most likely reason is blown head gasket, look at oil filler cap if it has oil and water mixed into white gloopy stuff it's pretty certain. You will need to replace head gasket to fix it.
if it is an automatic transmission the problem will be a split cooling tank that is inside one of the radiator tanks
the fix is a new radiator and a full flush of the cooling system
first identify the type of fluid being lost
green or pale red water indicates cooling system
red oil indicates power steering or transmission oil
dark brown to black is sump oil
once you know what is being lost then you will know what system to check
Is it a foamy substance? If so it is not oil it is the new coolant that is called extended life, it breaks down and turns to what appears to be an oily brown sludge. Have the system flushed thoroughly and add the new coolant that doesn't do this.
Do you have plenty of gas? Keep at least 1/2 and above. Also, add some fuel tank water remover...If tank has been low, add 2 bottles of "Heat"...Injector cleaning by adding fuel system cleaner after starting helps in the future. Your Volvo should make the needed adjustments for cold weather...you need to help it with the right additives for performance:) Hope this helps. (Is cranking slow?...also be sure oil change is fresh and correct oil viscosity 5W30...
If you have 2005 T5 the oil filter is located exactly in the red car picture above. Except its not a 32mm socket, use a 36mm socket and a break bar. If you cannot do it with these tools bring it to someone who knows what they are doing. Its a simple operation.
drain the radiator refill with water & use some radiator cleaner, you may need to repeat this several times to get all the oil out......hope this helps.....cheers
Water in combustion chamber makes white smoke--suspect that the head gasket is leaking water into the chamber. If oil leaking around turbo, it may have a bad bearing and bad oil seal. Check waste gate valve and control.
