The car manual is no help at all. The car phone manual assumes that you have a BMW phone cradle, it barely mentions bluetooth. However, the bluetooth passkey card that came with the manual is useful. IF your phone works with your car, you will need to key the four digit passkey (PK:####) from the sticker on that card into your phone when it finds the car's bluetooth.
The proceedure is straightforward. Turn the car to ON (need not start). Get into phone's bluetooth menu and tell it to search. IF it works, it will ask for the passkey. IF it supports the phone memory and/or SIM card memory sync, it will do so automatically.
From all I have read, buying a phone from the BMW tested phone list is not a guarantee that it will work on the car's bluetooth, and most of the ones that work support only a subset of the phone's functions. My daughter's Nokia 6300 is on the list but won't see our 2004 330. We could try having the dealer update the software in the car to see if that would help, but she just uses a headset.
